Ed Sopher has been helping people finance real estate since 1984, when he began his real estate career at the age of 18. After an “overextended stay” in Oregon, Ed returned to his hometown of San Diego and began working at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, where he specializes in reverse mortgages.
Reverse mortgages, also known as lifetime mortgages, is a loan product that enables homeowners aged 62 and older to release their home equity in one lump sum or in multiple payments. Most importantly, Sopher said, is that “it enables seniors to stay in their homes affordably.” A reverse mortgage allows homeowners to pay off existing debt, receive a line of credit, and obtain cash for any reason or a monthly income. The great advantage of reverse mortgages, Sopher said, is that they don’t require a monthly payment nor does the homeowner have to meet certain credit or income standards.
When Ed is not helping seniors with their financial needs, he enjoys the San Diego weather and driving classic cars. He is a member of Great Autos of Yesteryear.
Ed also spends his free time as an active volunteer at The Center. He is a member of Seniors Active in the Gay Environment and delivers meals to homebound seniors for Meals on Wheels. “I have always enjoyed helping both our community as well as the housing needs of seniors,” Ed said.
