Moby Dick’s dominates softball league
Published Thursday, 18-Sep-2003 in issue 821
Fall ball continued this weekend at the Poway Sportsplex where Moby Dick’s is proving to be a softball powerhouse. All three of the bar’s teams are in first place in their respective divisions with perfect 4-0 records, and they show no signs of letting up.
In the Open Competitive Division the Moby Dick’s Trojans are on a roll, and pitcher Scott Sleeman is leading the way, throwing his second shutout of the season — a no-hitter against the Center Starz, who lost to the Trojans, 20-0 in four innings. In their second game of the day the Trojans took down Interactive Male, beating them 17-5.
Right on the Trojan’s heels are Hamburger Mary’s, Viejas Fire and Bourbon Street Brewers, all with 3-1 records. Mary’s went undefeated this week with wins against J & B Tornados and the Bourbon Street Gators to improve their record while both Viejas and the Brewers split their games to create the three-way tie.
The Moby Dick’s Magnums are the leaders in the Open Rec Division. This week they picked up wins against the Live.com Bandits in a 7-0 game and then against the GLT Alano Club in a 10-6 ballgame. In the Rec. Division Bacchus House, GLT Alano Club and Red Envelop are all tied for second place with 1-2-1 records.
In the Women’s B Division Moby Dick’s Bottom’s Up is in a tie for first place with Aberration. Both teams are undefeated so far in Fall Ball and will face one another in a showdown Sept. 21 at 11:00.
Aberration’s bats were on first this weekend as they defeated Bourbon Street Women, 22-0, and against Hairspray they kept the hitting streak alive in a 22-4 ball game. Not to be outdone, Bottom’s Up gave Six Degrees a 21-3 pounding and followed up with a 25-5 game against Creative Futons. Powerhouse Gym is currently in second place in the division, picking up a pair of wins this weekend to improve their record to 3-1.
Rounding things up in the Women’s C Division Six Degrees, with a 2-2 record, is in first place. The team struggled this weekend playing B Division standouts Powerhouse Gym, who edged out a win against them in a 10-9 ballgame, as well as taking a loss against the first place Bottom’s Up.
