“We wanted to change the perception of modern furniture stores [being] cold and intimidating,” says Misti Broussard, one owner of Mixture, adding that “we want [Mixture] to be fun, comfortable, easy and enjoyable….”

Located in Little Italy, Mixture is a modern and contemporary furniture and accessories boutique. Mixture features high-style furniture with home and lifestyle accessories, including candles, cards, books, bags and jewelry. The boutique also provides custom furniture and interior design services, and happens to be one of the largest sellers of local art in San Diego.

Broussard is one of three owners of Mixture, including Brumby Broussard, her husband, and Charles Taylor. After dating for six years, Misti and Brumby finally exchanged nuptials this year. Charles, who has three daughters, also got married earlier this year.

The store will be celebrating its fourth anniversary this December. We “built this business from the very bottom up and want others to love it as much as we do,” says Misti.

Mixture is also heavily involved in the community. “The community is what brought us to San Diego. It’s what made us want to open our store in Little Italy,” says Misti. Mixture works with many different non-profits and local organizations, including San Diego Youth and Community Services, which runs a youth homeless shelter; the San Diego Center for Children, which assists the needs of behaviorally and emotionally challenged children; and A Reason to Survive (A.R.T.S.), which provides art classes to disadvantaged children. Mixture also helped develop the Art and Design District of Little Italy.
