The Breakup Notebook: The Lesbian Musical: San Diego’s award-winning Diversionary Theater presents its first production of the 2007-2008 season, The Breakup Notebook: The Lesbian Musical. The show, based on Patricia Cotter’s hit play of the same name, is “for anyone and everyone who has ever had a broken heart and lived to tell about it.” The musical tells the story of Helen Hill, a 33-year-old lesbian who has recently been dumped. She is heartbroken, stunned and determined to go out there and do it all over again. What follows is a buffet of bad dates and everything they entail. This production is an official event of San Diego Pride. Tickets range from $31-$35, and the show runs through Aug. 12. Diversionary Theater is located at 4545 Park Blvd. in University Heights. Club Fashion Whore: A monthly club night with fashion shows, dancing, music and optional dress-up themes, Club Fashion Whore has quickly become one of San Diego’s hottest alternative-night events. DJs Nate Soixante and Edgartronic will keep the crowd dancing to a great mix of music, described by the event producer as “Electropunkindie-newdiscosynthclashpopwave.” This month’s event kicks off Fashion Whore’s premiere at its new location, The Brass Rail. The optional theme for the evening is “Zoolander vs. Carrie (Prom).” Cover charge is $5, with discount passes available on the event Web site. Queer on Ray: A collection of galleries in North Park’s Ray Street Art and Culture District present “Queer on Ray.” The Rubber Rose, Sharp Gallery and Four Walls will host the various exhibits that will be on display through Aug. 9. The show includes the work of feminist photographer Courtney Trouble, photography of Michael Alago, and paintings and photography by Clive Barker, Sam Frazier, Valerie Jacobs and Mary Ann Luera. The opening receptions will be held in the various galleries on July 14 from 6-9 p.m. during Ray At Night, North Park’s monthly neighborhood art walk, held on the second Saturday. Stonewall Celebration: San Diego Pride officially kicks off Pride 2007 with the Stonewall Celebration, an event designed to motivate, revive and enlighten attendees. A number of speakers and performers will take the stage at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park to celebrate the unity and diversity of the GLBT community. The event, which will be emceed by the popular Laura Jane, will include performances by The Gay Men’s Chorus of San Diego, Kickers Cloggers, Noah Sugarman, Marianne Keith, Peech and more. Also, a number of local and national community leaders will be featured speakers at the event. The celebration commemorates the 1969 Stonewall uprising in New York’s Greenwich Village, which is considered to be the commencement of the modern gay and lesbian liberation movement. Kundalini Yoga: Check out The Center’s Monday night Kundalini Yoga session. Kundalini Yoga is an ancient science that combines postures, movements, breath, stretching, relaxation, meditation, rhythm and sound currents to work on every aspect of your being. This includes the physical, mental and subtle bodies. Everyone is welcome to attend the 5:45 p.m. class, and no previous experience in yoga is required. Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably, and those with sensitive joints should bring a yoga mat or pillow. Immediate physical and mental benefits are to be expected from the very first session. The free class is hosted by The Center’s Women’s Resource Center. Dead Sea Scrolls: The San Diego Natural History Museum’s exhibition “Dead Sea Scrolls” is the largest, longest, most comprehensive ever assembled in any country. Spanning two floors and 12,000 square feet, 27 Dead Sea Scrolls – 10 exhibited for the first time ever – will be on display over the course of the exhibition. The six-month exhibition brings together materials never before exhibited together: Dead Sea Scrolls from Israel and Jordan reunited for the first time in 60 years, never-before-exhibited ancient Hebrew codices from the Russian National Library, medieval manuscripts from the British National Library and stunning modern interpretations of the texts. This incredible exhibit is open to the public seven days a week through Dec. 31, 2007. Tickets range from $15-$28 and can be purchased online, by phone or at the museum. Cycles Gladiator wines: Cycles Gladiator wines are a celebration of freedom and happiness. The idea for these wines comes from the feelings that pervaded the late 19th-century European era known as the Belle Epoque – which included a number of notable inventions including the modern bicycle, or Le Bicycle Velocipede. This unique brand of wine will be featured at the Wine Encounter’s regular wine tasting series on Wednesday, July 18. For just $25, guests will be able to indulge and enjoy wine, light appetizers, bread and crackers. ‘American Idols Live’: Your favorite top-10 idols from the 2007 season of “American Idol” will be coming to San Diego as part of the “American Idols Live” tour. The concert, which is presented by “American Idol” and Pop-tarts, will feature performances by Blake, Chris R., Chris S., Gina, Haley, Jordin, LaKisha, Melinda, Phil, and of course, Sanjaya. Tickets for the concert, which will be held at the San Diego Sports Arena, range from $39.50-$72.50. Avenue Q: Kick off Pride weekend by taking in a production of the Tony Award-winning Avenue Q. The show tells the hilarious story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad who comes to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. He soon discovers that the only neighborhood in his price range is Avenue Q – still, the neighbors seem nice. Together, Princeton and his newfound friends struggle to find jobs, dates and their ever-elusive purpose in life.
