“… thank goodness there are people who think about more than legalizing marijuana and whether or not a teacher can wear a dress to teach kindergarten.”
Dear Editor,
Just when you think someone has come on board with common sense they say something to convince me that they’re just another leftist homo. Coco Lachine told a story of being surrounded by the terror of September 11th and the way it made him feel. A few paragraphs later he went on an anti-George Bush about spending money in America to fight AIDS and to spend more money on education (an endeavor that already eats up a half trillion dollars a year across the nation). Maybe Coco and others who pray at the liberal Democratic alter (sic) should consider that if a President didn’t fight the war against terrorism (that includes the war in Iraq) that all those precious programs would be unnecessary as Muslim fanatics would be attacking San Diego and beyond leaving social programs an afterthought to falling buildings and scores of dead. Those blinded by liberal politics should remember that it was the weakness of Bill Clinton’s administration that made the American mainland a target – just ask Osama bin Laden who bragged that America cannot tolerate casualties and would cut and run at the first sight of a flag draped coffin returning from overseas.
America was attacked many times during the course of the Clinton administration: the first WTC bombing, the bombing of a barracks in Saudi Arabia, the USS Cole, and 2 embassies in Africa to name a few and the result was million dollar cruise missiles raining down on an empty camp in Afghanistan. President Bush inherited a nation that appeared weak to the world and one that depended on the United Nations to look out for our national security. We all should have been considering the consequences of relying on a group that appoints Syria and Cuba the head of the Human Rights Commission and Iran to the post of chief of nuclear non-proliferations, but we were too busy thinking that the simple presence of a good economy would keep us safe. We were wrong. President Bush said it right when he said that it is better to fight the terrorists in Iraq than on the streets of America, but one has to wonder how the leftists would react if a bomb took out another national treasure and killed 3,000 people – I’d be willing to bet that they would be blaming Republicans for the attack and demanding that more money be spent on terrorism.
It is reasonable that some gays continue to give blind allegiance to the Democratic Party, but so long as national security is the most important issue facing us thank goodness there are people who think about more than legalizing marijuana and whether or not a teacher can wear a dress to teach kindergarten. I suppose it holds that there have to be a few people left who devote themselves to a Democratic Party that controls the state of California and has seemingly failed to give gays what they have wanted for the last 5 years. You have to wonder about the intellect of someone who recounts a story about terrorism then complains that it is costing too much to fight it, but at least Coco realizes the importance of wet underwear in his life.

“Seriously, sons don’t get to pick their own fathers.”
Dear Editor,
I’m an independent voter in the upcoming recall election who thinks writer Jay Murley’s smear of Arnold Schwarznegger (GLT issue 820, Sept. 11, 2003) needs to be repudiated. In essence, he says that since the movie star is the son of an ex-Nazi, he cannot be trusted to be the next governor of California. He even enlivens his guilt-by-association rant by naming some notorious Nazis, including one SA leader named Ernst Roehm “whose Brown Shirts attacked Jews and Gays” and wonders if “we could vote for some son of Roehm?” Murley either doesn’t know or doesn’t want us to know that Roehm was a notorious homosexual who recruited Gay men to become members of the SA Brown Shirts. So the only sons Roehm was interested in having was other people’s sons.
Seriously, sons don’t get to pick their own fathers. If so, John F. Kennedy certainly would have done better than Nazi sympathizer Joe Kennedy, who was fired as ambassador to England by FDR for his dubious associations. If Bill Clinton had to pick and choose a dad, he certainly would have done better than the abusive wife-beater and alcoholic his mom married. Comedienne Lucille Ball could also have used a better grandfather than the one the McCarthyite witch hunters used to get Ball fired from her TV show. He was a Red, you see.
Since Arnold is only running for governor, why is Murley so upset? Never has Arnold tried to hide his father’s past from us out of shame. It’s people like Murley who want to make ME feel ashamed to admit I was once a Democrat.
