Pride Community Coalition Breakfast: As part of its monthly Community Coalition Breakfast series, the San Diego LGBT Center will host a special Pride breakfast from 7:30-9 a.m. The mission of the event is to bring together fair-minded individuals to network, educate and discuss the diverse issues that concern GLBT and allied individuals in San Diego. For a donation of $10, attendees will receive a full champagne breakfast. Pre-sale tickets to the two-day Pride festival in Balboa Park will also be available for purchase. Pride With a Purpose: MyPartnerPerfect.com has teamed up with BuzzClothing.com to present San Diego’s most exclusive Pride event, Pride With a Purpose, at the Beach Bar of the W Hotel, from 4-7 p.m. This exciting party, a benefit for the San Diego Youth Housing Project, will include a full bar, appetizers and raffle prizes. 33rd Annual LGBT Pride Parade: San Diego’s largest and most colorful display of everything fabulous and gay will hit the streets of Hillcrest at 11 a.m. The Pride parade, which consists of more than 160 contingents, is the most anticipated GLBT event of the year, and will draw more than 150,000 cheering spectators. The parade will include six reviewing stands, more colorful contingents, and will kick off with a “drag race” – and we’re not talking about cars. The parade begins on University Avenue at Normal Street, and ends in Balboa Park. 619-297-7683, www.sdpride.org
San Diego LGBT Pride Festival: Balboa Park’s Marston Point becomes awash with rainbows, music, energy and fun, as the two-day Pride festival takes place. This year’s festival includes a number of new attractions, including a Freedom Zone, expanded family area, multiple beverage gardens and a Ferris wheel. Close to 100 groups will perform on six different stages at the event. Erasure will headline, with a concert on Sunday evening, July 22. Tickets for the event are $15 for one day, and $21 for two days, with discounted passes available for seniors and students. Active duty military get in free. Authors & Art: Celebrate fine art and writing at this year’s Authors & Art event at the Museum of the Living Artist in Balboa Park. A coffee reception will kick off the event, which runs from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m, and celebrates the artistic accomplishments of some of our best gay and lesbian writers and visuals artists. The event will include readings by local writers and an exhibition of figurative and photographic art work. Tango Wines presidential debates: Get political with Tango Wines, as they open up on their usual “off day” for viewing and discussion of the presidential debates. Join in the company of fellow political and wine-minded people to view the debates as they are televised on CNN, while drinking from a selection of your favorite wines. Discussion of the broadcast will take place immediately following the conclusion until 8 p.m. Tango Wines has committed to hosting “debate wine parties” through the 2008 presidential election. Cygnets water polo: The San Diego Cygnets are an all-inclusive, co-ed water polo team, which practices every Tuesday evening from 7:15-9 p.m. Players of all levels are welcome and encouraged to attend, including those who have never played before. Each practice includes a refresher on the basics, including conditioning, strategies, ball handling and drills. A scrimmage follows. The first practice is free, with a $5 fee for each subsequent session. Ocean Beach Farmers Market: Some of the freshest and most delicious locally grown produce can be purchased every week at the Ocean Beach Farmers Market every Wednesday, rain or shine, from 4-8 p.m. Also available at the weekly outdoor market are flowers, art, craft items and much more. There is also a great lineup of musicians that entertain the crowds each week. Jefferson Jay, OB Chuck, and The Shoplifters will take the stage on July 25. Leather Skate Night: San Diego’s leather community will host a Leather Skate Night from 7-9 p.m. This private two-hour skating event will be held at Skateworld San Diego and will include skating to great tunes from the ’70s and ’80s. For those who just wish to hang out, there is a full-seating area that provides a great view of the rink. A full snack bar is available. The $10 fee includes skate rental and two hours of skate time.
