Comic-Con International: The world of comics invades the San Diego Convention Center for the annual Comic-Con International. The four-day convention includes a number of workshops, exhibitors and displays relating to the comic industry. The weekend will also feature several exciting special events, parties and receptions. (And for many, the best part is seeing the people that parade around dressed as various comic book characters.) Comic-Con runs from Thursday, July 26, to Sunday, July 29. Ticket packages for the event range from $15-$55. The San Diego Convention Center is located at 111 W. Harbor Drive in downtown San Diego. www.comic-con.org
Saturday, July 28
Diva by Diva: The Gay Men’s Chorus of San Diego presents “Diva by Diva,” an outrageously funny and over-the-top concert tribute to the divas who have made gay men who they are by day, and who they want to be by night. The concert will feature selections from many of our favorite divas, including The Andrews Sisters, Bette Midler, Tammy Wynette, Patsy Kline, Karen Carpenter, Madonna and many more. The “Diva by Diva” show will include three performances throughout the weekend at the David and Dorothea Garfield Theatre. Tickets range from $30-$35 with discounts for seniors, students, military and groups. The theater is located at 4126 Executive Drive in La Jolla. 619-57-GMCSD, www.gmcsd.com
Super Funtime Happy Group: The Johnny Girl will host the “Super Funtime Happy Group” art show and performance starting at 8 p.m. There will be great art and performances by local artist, along with free beer, vodka, wine and a “happy, fun time” for everyone involved. The art show and performance will take place at 1115 F St. downtown, near the corner of F and 11th streets. For more information, e-mail thejohnnygirl@yahoo.com.

Hillcrest Farmers Market: A popular San Diego tradition for 10 years now, the Hillcrest Farmers Market is a great way to start a Sunday morning. A number of vendors selling fresh produce, baked goods, crafts, apparel, home furnishings and more make this farmers market one of the most popular in town. Sponsored by the Hillcrest Business Association since 1997, this weekly outdoor marketplace is a member of the California Federation of Certified Farmers Markets. The Hillcrest Farmers Market happens every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. near the DMV on Normal Street at Lincoln Avenue. 619-299-3330

Tears for Fears: Tears For Fears “ruled the world” on the pop charts during the latter part of the 1980s with catchy radio and arena anthems like “Shout,” “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” “Mad World” and “Head Over Heels.” After the singing duo broke up, the sounds of Tears for Fears were dark until the band reunited in 2004. Tears for Fears will return to Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay for its second appearance at the venue. Ticket packages for the 8 p.m. concert start at $80. Humphrey’s is located at 2241 Shelter Island Drive. 619-220-8497, www.humphreysconcerts.com

Tuesday Nite Out: Tuesdays in Hillcrest are Tuesday Nite Out! Merchants throughout the neighborhood offer a number of food, beverage and other merchandise specials once a week, during this special neighborhood night out. Favorites include the $1.25 fish tacos at Lalo’s, free dessert with purchase of dinner entrée at City Deli and half-priced wine bottles at Pizza Nova. Look for the “Tuesday Nite Out” signs in participating merchant’s windows, and be sure to ask for the “Tuesday” special!

San Diego Padres vs. Arizona Diamondbacks: Why not enjoy a warm summer evening at a San Diego Padres baseball game? Grab a cold beer, a hot dog and some popcorn, and head over to Petco Park as the Padres face off against the Arizona Diamondbacks for a 7:05 p.m. home game. Tickets for the game range from $5-$60 and can be purchased online through the Padres’ Web site. Petco Park is located at 19 Tony Gwynn Way in downtown San Diego. www.padres.com

House of Wax: The San Diego Museum of Art continues its popular summer outdoor film series with a selection of four acclaimed films featuring scenes in a museum. This week’s film will be the 1953 classic House of Wax. This Vincent Price film is about a wax sculptor who is horrified when his partner proposes setting fire to their museum in order to collect the insurance money. The 8 p.m. event is free and takes place on the East Lawn in Balboa Park. www.balboapark.org
