Club Fashion Whore: A monthly club night with fashion shows, dancing, music, and optional dress-up themes, Club Fashion Whore has quickly become one of San Diego’s hottest events. DJs Nate Soixante and Edgartronic will keep the crowd dancing to a great mix of music, described by the event producer as “Electropunkindienewdiscosynthclashpopwave.” “Pool party” is the optional theme for the event, hosted at the Brass Rail Nightclub and Lounge. Symphony Pops with Chris Botti: Trumpeter extraordinaire Chris Botti joins the SD Symphony Summer Pops series at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10 and Saturday Aug. 11. The San Diego Symphony’s Summer Pops series has highlighted Christopher Allen and In Achord at the Broadway Pops concerts, as well as kicking off the summer with Clay Aiken, making it one of the gayest symphony summers yet! Ticket prices range from $12 lawn seats or $75 seats with champagne included. The San Diego Symphony’s Summer Pops series is held seaside at the embarcadero. Dog Days of Summer: Cardiff 101 and the Rancho Coastal Humane Society are hosting a day of fun for dogs and their human friends. The Headline Graphics parking lot and a portion of Aberdeen Drive in Cardiff will be home to the Dog Days of Summer event. Musical entertainment, puppet shows, a children’s area and doggie contests are all planned for the day. Contests include cutest puppy, ugliest dog, best dog tricks, best kisses, obstacle courses and more. Dog friendly businesses and organizations will also be on site to provide information about their products and services. Hillcrest CityFest: The Hillcrest CityFest is the biggest street party in the county and the largest arts and crafts event in the state of California. The 24th annual event, taking place on Sunday, Aug. 12, will transform Fifth Avenue from University Avenue to Upas Street into a big party complete with entertainment on two stages and more than 250 booths with food, arts and crafts vendors, psychic readings, and more. This year’s event will also feature premium beer from nine local micro-breweries affiliated with the San Diego Brewer’s guild in the beer gardens. More than 100,000 people are expected to visit Fifth Avenue for the one-day block party. The event is free. www.hillcrestassociation.com.
Sunday Gospel Brunch: It’s so wrong in so many delicious ways! Sister Nun-of-the-Above and the Sisters of the Sequins host the Sunday Gospel Brunch at Lips Restaurant and Showroom. Summer Organ Festival: The Spreckels Organ Society continues its 20th International Summer Organ Festival. Throughout the summer, a fantastic line-up of organists from around the world will grace the keys of the Spreckels Organ in Balboa Park on Monday nights at 7:30 p.m. This week’s show features Barbara Dennerlein, an internationally renowned jazz organist. Hilary Duff: Hollywood Records’ multi-platinum recording artist Hilary Duff comes to San Diego as part of her nationwide Dignity Tour. The tour follows an enormously successful year for Hilary, which included the release of her chart topping hit, “With Love.” The young pop star will take the stage at San Diego State University’s Open Air Theater. Beneath the Silver Moon: North Park’s hottest new young local entrepreneurs will be featured at the fashion show, Beneath the Silver Moon. The event, which will take place at Hawthorn’s Restaurant, will begin with appetizers and cocktails at 8 p.m. A fashion show with clothing provided by Material, Mesh, Mimi & Red, Kate Ross, and The Rubber Rose will follow at 9 p.m. Disconnected, Luxe Hair Studio, and House of Hair will provide the hair styling. Raiders of the Lost Ark: The San Diego County Department of Parks and Recreation’s popular Movies in the Park series continues. Community centers in Fallbrook, Lakeside, and Spring Valley are hosting the outdoor movies. Bring a picnic, blanket and lawn chair to enjoy a high-quality digital outdoor movie experience for the entire family. The Aug. 16 feature will be “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” at Spring Valley Park.
