“There are only a hand full of couples that want this marriage act, you don’t see thousands of gay couples out there protesting for this agenda! This is managed by the gay left activist, that push the victim game on the community!”
Dear Editor:
Once again you and others feel you are the voices of the community. Well the gay marriage agenda is not what the whole community wants! The city of San Diego did its job and stayed out of the liberal politics of the state, that is managed by those in San Francisco! There are only a hand full of couples that want this marriage act, you don’t see thousands of gay couples out there protesting for this agenda! This is managed by the gay left activist, that push the victim game on the community! Not once has domestic partnership been mentioned. Its one agenda or nothing! I know of many couples that don’t want to get married, but do want to be acknowledged as a partnership. A domestic partnership gives all the benefits that are desired for all couples! The Vote of the people of the state of California, made a decision on this matter and it must be respected!! Domestic partnership is supported by a majority of the straight and gay community. Once again many of us do support and will continue to support the city’s decision on regards to this matter!

“It was appropriate for the Council to take up and vote on this measure on Tuesday. Moreover, marriage equality has been a national and international story for the past few years. Politicians and citizens alike know where they stand.”
Dear Editor:
I want to commend Councilmember Toni Atkins for her leadership in asking the San Diego City Council to sign a friend-of-the-court brief in an appeal to the California Supreme Court’s ban on marriage equality.
Let’s be fair, the item was properly docketed and the City Attorney has said that the process followed all the correct timelines.
It was appropriate for the Council to take up and vote on this measure on Tuesday. Moreover, marriage equality has been a national and international story for the past few years. Politicians and citizens alike know where they stand.
Councilmember Atkins’s leadership gives the council the opportunity to be on the right side of this important issue. The California State Legislature passed the bill for the second time on September 7. These are the right steps to help influence the Supreme Court to rule favorably in this case and support marriage equality.
Senator Christine Kehoe
“Why would any fair minded person have to wait for the consensus of the public to vote in support of equal rights? Thank goodness it was Harry Truman and not Donna Frye when the executive order to integrate the armed forces was signed.”
Dear Editor:
Friend-of-the-court brief heads back to City Council Sept. 18
Donna Frye’s no vote on the gay marriage issue was very disappointing. Why would any fair minded person have to wait for the consensus of the public to vote in support of equal rights? Thank goodness it was Harry Truman and not Donna Frye when the executive order to integrate the armed forces was signed. Thank goodness it was Lyndon Johnson and not Donna Frye when the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed.
Hopefully when this issue comes up again Councilmember Frye will decide for herself how to vote on this equal rights issue and not be trying to count votes for her next election.

“This kind of bitchiness has no place in professional journalism. Next time, why don’t you try presenting both sides without resorting to unfounded personal attacks?”
Dear Editor:
This is in response to your editorial, 301: Is the City Council corrupt, or just stupid?, August 30, 2007.
I respect and admire Toni Atkins as a good friend of my community and elected representative from my city council district. I found the anger you expressed in the editorial to be very inappropriate. This kind of bitchiness has no place in professional journalism. Next time, why don’t you try presenting both sides without resorting to unfounded personal attacks? Otherwise you are just undermining your arguments.

“The editorial was right on subject and if this publication will not stand up for the rights of this community then who will?”
Dear Editors:
I just wanted to personally thank you for your brave, truthful, honest and insightful perspective concerning the Editorial printed in the Gay & Lesbian Times (August 16, 2007-Issue 1025, “Cash-grabbing firefighters capitalize on culture of hate”). I see a lot of the reader comments were less than favorable. I beg to differ. You have no idea how refreshing it was to see a piece of journalism finally touch on a subject that needed to be brought to the forefront of this community. The editorial was right on subject and if this publication will not stand up for the rights of this community then who will? I applaud your willingness to print it. It’s been along time since a written statement like this has so moved me and made me be proud to be part of the San Diego community. Now that is an excellent piece of journalism! Job well done, please keep up the good work!
