Club Fashion Whore: A monthly club night with fashion shows, dancing, music, and optional dress-up themes, Club Fashion Whore has quickly become one of San Diego’s hottest alternative night events. DJs Nate Soixante and Edgartronic will keep the crowd dancing to a great mix of music, described by the event producer as “Electropunkindienewdiscosynthclashpopwave.” The optional theme for this month’s event, which takes place at the Brass Rail Nightclub and Lounge, is “1920s With a Twist.” Cover charge is only $5 with a discount pass available on the event Web site. Freshmen Orientation: Freshmen Orientation is a film about an 18-year-old college freshman eager to delve into college party life, who discovers that school is not the beer-driven, sexual fantasy he imagined. Determined to do anything to get the girl of his dreams – a gorgeous but reluctant sorority girl named Amanda (Kaitlin Doubleday) – Clay plays gay to get close to her. This casual charade quickly lands him in a morass of campus activism, gender warfare, fraternity hazes, sorority torture, “coming out” narratives, political martyrdom and a university-wide meltdown. Erotic Trance & the Sexual Matrix: Exploring Ecstatic Sensuality: This event will discuss the latest research and techniques for improving the erotic experience. Participants will be given the opportunity to entertain possibilities for different styles of sexual involvement and discover their own individual preferences, while learning communication secrets to enhance lovemaking. This workshop will be the perfect place to gain insight to further your own sexual evolution! Attendees will also be able to get answers to their most challenging sexual questions. Family Matters Summer BBQ: Family Matters will host its annual Summer BBQ at the Trolley Barn Park in University Heights. The event, which is Family Matters’ biggest of the year, takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The barbecue includes activities for the entire family, including face painting, clowns, jumps, slides, a climbing wall, and, of course, great food. GLBT parents are encouraged to bring their children and extended families to join the celebration!

San Diego Music Awards: The 17th annual San Diego Music Awards, taking place at Viejas Concerts in the Park, will pay tribute to San Diego’s music scene with awards for a number of categories including Best Cover, Tribute, or Bar Band, Best Club DJ, and Artist of the Year. The show will include live performances by Jason Mraz, Reeve Oliver, Buck-O-Nine, Lady Dottie and the Diamonds, the Truckee Brothers and more. Tickets range from $30-$75 for the 7 p.m. show. Dine Out with the 50 and Better Club: Join The Center’s 50 and Better Club for its monthly Dine Out Night at 5:30 p.m. This month, the group will meet at Jimmy Carter’s Cafe. Hamlet: In its final weeks, the Old Globe’s Summer Shakespeare Festival has been a great success. For those who wish to catch one more production before summer’s end, the festival runs through Sept. 30. The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Measure for Measure, and Hamlet are performed on a nightly rotating basis in the Lowell Davies Festival Theater. The Shakespeare Festival productions are performed by a resident acting company comprised of professional actors, along with the graduate acting students from The Old Globe/University of San Diego Master of Fine Arts program. The Globe brought back Shakespeare in repertory during the 2004 summer season after a nearly 20-year absence, and the theater is thrilled to continue offering this time-honored tradition started by Globe Founding Director Craig Noel. Square Dancing Class: Gay square dancing is high energy dancing! The Finest City Squares are inviting new members to this free square dancing class. With the group’s new season beginning in September, this week’s class is free of charge! Square dancing’s appeal is growing in the GLBT community, with clubs popping up all over the US, Canada, and even Japan. Women’s Leather Rap: The next Women’s Leather Rap will be Thursday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. The group welcomes all GLBST women to come together for this lively discussion group. Curious and new BDSM/leather/kink women are also always welcome. Women are encouraged to come together to share their views, ideas, suggestions, opinions, and of course, chocolate, at this group. Toast to Hillcrest: The Hillcrest Centennial Committee is presenting its Toast to Hillcrest Wine, Spirits & Nibbles Tour as part of the continuing Hillcrest Centennial Celebration. Participants will stroll from local wine bars to restaurants and cocktail lounges or jump on and off the big red bus to sample their way through Hillcrest for only $15. The event is open to people 21 years and older. Tickets can be purchased online or by phone and will be available for pickup at the will-call booth located Fifth and Robinson (bring your ID).
