San Diego Film Festival: San Diego Film Festival (SDFF) is a competitive four-day festival filled with films, special events, and great parties. Held in San Diego’s premier downtown entertainment district, the Gaslamp Quarter, SDFF celebrates its sixth anniversary Sept. 27-30. Founded by a filmmaker, SDFF offers a fresh take on film premieres with wide-ranging programming from American and international features to thought-provoking documentaries, short films and music videos, in addition to tracks celebrating Native American and women filmmakers. Adams Avenue Street Fair: The 26th annual Adams Avenue Street Fair, Southern California’s largest free two-day music festival will cover eight blocks of Adams Avenue from Sept. 29-30. The event typically attracts more than 100,000 people each year who come to enjoy more than 70 live music performances on six stages, three beer gardens and more than 300 arts and craft and dood vendors. Visitors will enjoy a variety of music, including blues, rock, world, alt, roots-rock, jazz, reggae, zydeco, alt-country and acoustic. Saturday performances begin at 10:30 a.m., with the last show at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday’s first act goes on at 10 a.m. with the last band at 5:15 p.m. www.adamsavenue-online.com
Bourbon Street’s 20th Anniversary: Bourbon Street, one of San Diego’s most popular GLBT bars, is celebrating its’ 20th birthday! The party, which started Monday, will culminate with “The Main Event” on Sept. 29. A private party with hors d’oeuvres from Lei Lounge and a hosted bar will take place from 4-7 p.m. Those interested in attending should visit the bar’s Web site for an invitation. Bourbon Street will open to the public at 9 p.m. for a huge party with a New Orleans style bead toss, music by DJ Dallas and go-go boys. The first 500 people through the doors will receive a free 20-year anniversary mix CD by DJ Dallas. Bourbon Street is located at 4612 Park Blvd. in University Heights. Coronado Art Walk: The Coronado Art Walk has been designed to foster creativity and appreciation for the wonders of art. The event begins in the center of Coronado’s village where the performing arts will be featured on two music and entertainment stages. Artists and vendors will be housed in tented booths along the street from Orange Avenue down Park Place and around Star Park. The Ferry Landing will also host some of the more than 90 artists skilled in painting, hand-crafted jewelry, photography, ceramics, and more. Each artist and vendor is selected by a jury for his/her ability to express the vast and varied world of art in his/her particular art form. AIDS Walk San Diego: AIDS Walk San Diego is San Diego’s largest one-day HIV/AIDS fundraiser and the biggest non-governmental financial provider for HIV/AIDS in San Diego County. Dozens of agencies, serving thousands of clients, rely on funds raised at the annual AIDS Walk to help provide essential prevention and care programs to thousands of men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS. Established as AIDS Walk San Diego in 1989, this event took place for two years prior as the Walk for Life. Since 1989, AIDS Walk San Diego has raised more than $6.5 million. Thousands of people will join together on this Sunday morning to walk, run, and raise funds for HIV/AIDS. Coral Reef Adventure: Coral Reef Adventure follows the real-life expedition of ocean explorers and underwater filmmakers Howard and Michele Hall. The Halls guide the audience to the islands and sun-drenched waters of the South Pacific to document the health and beauty of coral reefs. Since this film is on the giant IMAX screen, viewers will feel like they are actually diving and exploring right alongside the on-screen guides. The film is being shown at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center located at 1875 El Prado in Balboa Park. Tickets range from $6-$9.75. Coral Reef Adventure will run through Oct. 4. 619-238-1233, www.rhfleet.org

Most Wanted: Most Wanted is a music theater piece that explores our society’s obsession with wealth, fame and the cult of celebrity. In the wake of the media frenzy surrounding the brutal murder of Gianni Versace by Andrew Cunanan, drag queens, divas and dandies all gather to take us on a kaleidoscopic journey through high fashion, glossy magazines, low dives, and into the mind of a young killer. Most Wanted is presented as the inaugural production in the La Jolla Playhouse’s new ‘The Edge’ series. The show runs from Oct. 2-14 with varying showtimes. Tickets are $25. Daughtry: Emboldened by a collection of arena-tempered anthems and hand-crafted gems, Chris Daughtry formed a band around the foundry of songs that make up DAUGHTRY before any of the accolades rolled in. Daughtry is mult-talented – a writer, singer, and performer – all traits that have brought him much success. Daughtry takes the stage at Viejas Concerts in The Park on Oct. 3 to perform a number of songs from its new album. Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show are $32.50. Hillcrest Centennial Gala: Join the Hillcrest History Guild for a special evening toasting Hillcrest’s first 100 years. The celebration will be from 5:30-9 p.m. in the grand ballroom at The Prado Restaurant in Balboa Park featuring a spectacular dinner, dancing, a fabulous silent auction and music by Sue Palmer and her Motel Swing Quintet. Beginning at 5 p.m. a big red double-decker bus will be making a wide swoop through Hillcrest to pick up celebrants and drop them off at the front door of The Prado. After the event the bus will make a reverse trip along the same route to take guests home. The price for this centennial celebration is only $50, with just less than 100 seats remaining. North Park Farmers Market: The Farmers Market has returned to North Park! The parking lot in the southwest corner of the North Park CVS Pharmacy is transformed into a farmers market every Thursday afternoon from 2 p.m. until dark. Over 30 vendors are present each week selling produce, flowers, pastries, baked goods, services, and more. The North Park Farmer’s Market is hosted by North Park Main Street. 619-294-2501.
