Queer Delight: Sweet Buns and Sticky Rice: As part of the San Diego Asian Film Festival, which runs Oct. 11-18, Queer Delight: Sweet Buns and Sticky Rice boasts something for the entire Queer family. It is a series of short films which range from girl drama and a mad boy crush to a transgender awakening. The 7:15 p.m. film will be presented at the UltraStar Mission Valley 7 Theater. Following the film, head to Aubergine Nightclub for SDAFF’s second annual music and video showcase, Blowfish. A dynamic convergence of Asian -American talent, Blowfish is an exploration of the intersection of beats, rhymes and film, through live performance and projected videos. Don’t miss this party, a deadly but delicious mix of Los Angeles party-rocking with San Diego flavor. North County Pride: For the first time since 2004, North County Pride will return to Carlsbad’s Stagecoach Park with the theme “Everyone’s Family, North County Pride.” The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13, from noon to 3 p.m. This family-friendly event will feature a clown, face painting, food, live bands and more. The purpose of the event is for North County GLBT residents and friends to meet other families who live in the area. Funerary Art Show: The Funerary Art Show will showcase a collection of multimedia artwork created by artists who, through grief, have developed a visual conversation to help reconfigure or honor those who have died. The exhibit investigates the complex relationships between the living and the dead. The opening reception will take place in conjunction with the monthly “Ray At Night” art walk in North Park, along Ray Street and the surrounding area. RuPaul: Yes, the rumors are true Bacchus House has taken its annual “Turn-About” show to a new level this year, by turning it into a massive block party with everyone’s favorite drag diva RuPaul as the headline entertainer. Bacchus House has obtained permits to block off Ohio Street from University to Lincoln avenues for this very special event. Along with RuPaul’s performance, members of the bar staff will also be decked out in drag and will perform. Attendees will also receive LeAnn Rimes’ new CD Family. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the fun begins at 9 p.m. VIP tickets are $85 before Oct. 12, and $100 at the door. General Admission tickets are $20 before Oct. 12, and $25 at the door. North Park Mariachi Festival: The first annual North Park Hispanic Heritage Month Mariachi Festival will pay tribute to the seven Latino countries that declared their independence during the month of October. Three world-class musical talents will perform between noon and 5 p.m. at the Sunset Ballroom, adjacent to Claire de Lune Coffeehouse. Performance groups include Miguel de Hoyos and Sol de Mexico Ballet Folklorico. Mariachi Real de San Diego. Gil Sperry, author of “Mariachi for Gringos,” will be the emcee of the event. Carlos Mencia: One of the most popular comedians in the country, Carlos Mencia will share his rare gift of insightful perception and precise delivery at Viejas Concerts in the Park. He will present two shows, one at 6 p.m. and another at 9 p.m. Tickets range from $40-$50. Duncan Sheik: Duncan Sheik became a household name with his very first single, the smash hit “Barely Breathing” from his Grammy-nominated, debut gold record. But his mainstream success may belie the depth of his work – he has scored for film and the stage, produced ambitious records for other artists, and captured audiences around the world with his remarkable voice and songs. Telluride MOUNTAINFILM in San Diego: The curtain’s rising for an evening of award-winning, exhilarating, and provocative films from around the world. Telluride’s MOUNTAINFILM Festival includes short and long pieces about adventure sports, cultures, and remarkable people. These films illustrate the world we live in and the one we’d like to live in. A collection of these films will be shown at the San Diego Natural History Museum’s Charmaine and Maurice Kaplan Theater from 7-10 p.m. Tickets range from $12-$15. San Diego Kings Revue: Tuesdays at Bacchus House are for the ladies, and each week features a different line-up of great entertainment. Oct. 16 is the third Tuesday of the month, which means the San Diego Kings Club Revue takes the stage! The San Diego Kings Club includes some of the finest drag entertainers in town. Rhythm and the Method: Rhythm and the Method is a San Diego-based band that is in a genre of its own. Mixing sounds of blues, rock, folk rock, funk and soul, this five-piece band has something for everyone. Fronted by singer/songwriter/musician Rhythm Turner, the band features an array of talented musicians, who will take the stage at the Brass Rail for it’s weekly “Wind It Up” live music series. The event, hosted by Ashley Matte, features the best in female-fronted, musical entertainment, with acts rotating weekly. The show begins at 9 p.m. and there is no cover.
