I Put A Spell On You: San Diego’s favorite singer, songwriter and entertainer extraordinaire Laura Jane has teamed up with San Diego’s Queen of Boogie Woogie, Sue Palmer, for a special Halloween concert. “I Put A Spell On You” will be held at The Rubber Rose at 8 p.m. The concert will include wine, chocolate and legendary music by the two local entertainers. Costumes are not required, but highly encouraged. Start your Halloween celebration early with this very special evening! Tickets are $15. Dreamscapes: The Chuck Jones Gallery will present the work of Joshua Smith at the “Dreamscapes” exhibition opening reception from 5-8 p.m. Smith, an artist selected as the Best New SOLO Artist at the 2007 New York International Art Exposition, has been exhibited in several group exhibitions, including William Baczek Fine Arts, Northampton, Mass. and at the Principle Gallery in Alexandria, Va. Matthew Shepard Foundation HONORS: The Matthew Shepard Foundation HONORS will hold an evening of special performances and presentations recognizing individuals and organizations for their longstanding leadership in replacing hate with understanding, compassion and acceptance. The 2007 event will include a pre-reception, dinner and show at the Wiltern in Los Angeles. Hosted by Alison Sweeney and Peter Paige. HONORS will recognize: U.S. Senators Edward Kennedy and Gordon Smith; U.S. Representatives Tammy Baldwin and Christopher Shays; as well as sisters Cyndi and Elen Lauper; Terry DeCrescenzo and GLASS Youth and Family Services. The evening will also include a special welcome by Judy Shepard, executive director of the Matthew Shepard Foundation. Nightmare On Normal Street: The Center hosts its annual Halloween celebration, “Nightmare on Normal Street,” from 7-10 p.m. The event will take place on Normal Street, between University Avenue and Blaine Street in Hillcrest. This year’s celebration will be for those 21 and older and will include a costume contest with more than $1,000 in prizes. Nicole Murray-Ramirez is the emcee for the parade of costumes. The Bud Light Beer Garden will return, DJ Talonya will spin dance tunes, and there will be a special performance by the Technomania Circus, and a photo booth by Him Pix. Hillcrest Farmers Market: A popular San Diego tradition for more than 10 years, the Hillcrest Farmers Market is a great way to start a Sunday morning. A number of vendors selling fresh produce, baked goods, crafts, apparel, home furnishings and more, make this farmers market one of the most popular in town. Sponsored by the Hillcrest Business Association since 1997, this weekly outdoor marketplace is a member of the California Federation of Certified Farmers Markets. Kundalini Yoga: Check out The Center’s Monday night Kundalini Yoga session. Kundalini Yoga is an ancient science that combines postures, movements, breath, stretching, relaxation, meditation, rhythm and sound currents to work on every aspect of your being. This includes the physical, mental and subtle bodies. Everyone is welcome to attend the 5:45 p.m. class, and no previous experience in yoga is required. Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably, and those with sensitive joints should bring a yoga mat or pillow. Immediate physical and mental benefits are to be expected from the very first session. The free class is hosted by The Center’s Women’s Resource Center.
