Oscar & The Pink Lady: From internationally acclaimed writer Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt comes the beautiful and surprisingly funny story of a young hospital patient and his uplifting relationship with a kindly volunteer “Pink Lady,” whose daily visits provide him with inspiration and hope. Starring internationally renowned actress Rosemary Harris, The Old Globe Theater’s production of Oscar and the Pink Lady is sensitive, heartbreaking, amusing and, ultimately, life-affirming. The show runs through Nov. 4, with varying show times. Tickets range from $47-$59. The Old Globe Theater is located at 1363 Old Globe Way in Balboa Park. 619-234-5623, www.theoldglobe.org
Sunday, Nov. 4
Free Organ Concert: John D. and Adolph Spreckels donated the Spreckels Organ, one of the world’s largest outdoor pipe organs, to the City of San Diego in 1914 for the Panama-California Exposition. This unique organ contains 4,530 pipes ranging in length from the size of a pencil to 32 feet and is housed in an ornate, vaulted structure with highly embellished gables. Since 1917, San Diego has had a civic organist, who performs free weekly Sunday concerts and occasionally hosts special guest organists. Jackson Borges will perform the Nov. 4 concert. The concert begins at 2 p.m. The Spreckels Organ Pavilion is located in the heart of Balboa Park. www.sosorgan.com
Monday, Nov. 5
Mason Jennings: Singer/songwriter Mason Jennings blends the deeply personal insights of a poet, the political broadsides of a protest singer and the broad musical eclecticism of a jazz musician with the passion and commitment of a rock ’n’ roller. The result has made him one of the most talked-about new artists on the acoustic music scene and earned him a loyal cult following, moving more than 30,000 copies of his first two albums and selling out shows around the country without the benefit of a major-label publicity department. Jennings will perform live at the Belly Up Tavern for an 8 p.m. show. Tickets are $18. The Belly Up Tavern is located at 143 S Cedros Ave. in Solana Beach. www.bellyup.com
