Punks: ion theatre is proud to announce the world premiere of Punks, a seductive, heart-stopping and moving play inspired by Jean Genet’s erotically charged masterpiece, The Maids. Conceived in a modern milieu by Glenn Paris, Raygoza’s reinvented script is set in present-day New York, where a pair of male hustlers working for a mysterious ex-movie actor enact film-noir-like scenes that range from light taunting to lustful revenge while he watches and waits. Scandalous and searing, teasing and titillating, Punks burns with questions of class struggle, the stigma of prostitution and our destructive fascination with youth, vanity and celebrity culture. Preview shows will be presented Nov. 9-11, and Nov. 15, and opening night is Nov. 16, with the show running through Dec. 15. Tickets for Punks range from $10-$27.50, with discounts available for various groups. ion theater’s productions are performed at The Academy of Performing Arts located at 4580-B Alvarado Canyon Rd. 619-374-6894, www.iontheater.com
