“Thank you for your continued efforts at the GLT in bringing transgendered issues into the light.”
Dear Editor:
Your efforts at the GLT to improve your sensitivity and reporting of transgender issues is apparent in this well researched, informative feature by Joseph Pena, on Transgendered Veterans. As veterans my partner and I saw parts of ourselves in the article, which in many ways explained our own experiences with gender discrimination in the military.
I do not know the percentage of transgendered men and women who are military veterans, but from my casual observations it is a large number - perhaps 30% or more. That’s a lot of TG vets. It’s long past time that people are treated equally by the government of this country.
Thank you for your continued efforts at the GLT in bringing transgendered issues into the light.

“Could we all stop bashing Nicole? … He has long had the gumption to take public positions and continues to do so, including those represented in his GLT column.”
Dear Editor:
Could we all stop bashing Nicole? Please. He has long had the gumption to take public positions and continues to do so, including those represented in his GLT column. Although I disagree with some of his political judgments - a LOT of them in fact, I’m happy that he has a podium to express them. We don’t need less free expression, we need more. So perhaps somebody who disagrees with Nicole about the Sanders administration, or individual City Council members and political issues should step up and offer to write a weekly column for the GLT. Or perhaps, if none of us have Nicole’s persistence and longevity or the time, perhaps GLT would consider a weekly guest column. And maybe it would be useful to consider why we read Nicole’s column in the first place, even when we disagree with his opinions. We might learn something.
