Folk Dance Class: The Center’s 50 and Better Club presents a free Folk Dance Class. Participants will enjoy exotic rhythms from far-away places while learning traditional ethnic folk dances from Greece, Romania, Albania, Bulgaria and Israel. The class will also teach easy line and circle dances. The class is perfect for beginners, and no partner is necessary. K-Ci & Jo-Jo: Cedric and Joel Hailey make up the R&B duo K-Ci & Jo-Jo, best known for their 1998 chart-topping hit “All My Life.” Along with special guest Jon B, the brothers will take the stage at the Dreamcatcher Lounge at Viejas Casino. KC & The Sunshine Band: KC & The Sunshine Band is still as widely popular today as it was when it first danced onto the music scene 33 years ago. Harry Wayne Casey – KC, for short – developed a unique fusion of R&B and funk, with a hint of a Latin percussion groove, giving us an impressive string of hits like Get Down Tonight, That’s The Way (I Like It) and Shake Your Booty. Hillcrest Farmers Market: A popular San Diego tradition for more than 10 years, the Hillcrest Farmers Market is a great way to start a Sunday morning. A number of vendors selling fresh produce, baked goods, crafts, apparel, home-furnishings and more make this farmers market one of the most popular in town. Sponsored by the Hillcrest Business Association since 1997, this weekly outdoor marketplace is a member of the California Federation of Certified Farmers Markets. The Hillcrest Farmers Market takes place every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine, near the DMV on Normal Street at Lincoln Avenue. 619-299-3330
San Diego International Auto Show: Looking to see your favorite new model vehicle? Want to take a peek into the future? How about getting behind the wheel of a new truck and going “off road”? All of this is possible at the San Diego International Auto Show. More than 400 new-model vehicles, concept cars and alternative fuel vehicles will be on display encompassing more than 640,000 square feet – the largest show to date. The auto show runs from Wednesday, Dec. 26 through Sunday, Dec. 30 at the San Diego Convention Center. Tickets are $10 with discounts for seniors, military and children. New Years Eve Aboard the Midway: Fill your New Year’s Eve with magic aboard The Midway Aircraft Carrier from 8 p.m. to midnight. Permanently docked at the Navy Pier, The Midway is the most exciting venue in downtown San Diego. Enjoy views of the bay and sip champagne while watching the city lights from the flight deck. Extravagant dinner stations, hosted open bar and music by the Big Daddy Orchestra will be included. San Diego Kite Club: The San Diego Kite Club, an American Kitefliers Association sanctioned club, will host its 18th Annual New Years Day Kite Fly. The day will include free flying, a potluck lunch, sport kite demonstrations, a loud auction and raffle. The winner of the day-long event, which will take place at Mariner’s Point, will receive “a really cool paper dragon structure.” Mariners Point is located off of Mariners Way in Mission Bay. www.sandiegokiteclub.com

Poinsettia Display: Magnificent poinsettia plants, 300 total, turn Balboa Park’s historic Botanical Building into a glowing tribute to the holidays. Built for the 1915-1916 Exposition, along with the adjacent Lily Pond, the historic building is one of the largest wood lath structures in the world. The seasonal poinsettia display, offered to San Diegans and guests for the 21st year, opens daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and remains on view through Jan. 9. San Diego Boat Show: Start 2008 with a splash at the San Diego Boat Show! San Diego’s most complete boat show is celebrating 20 years as the best place to see and buy boats, gear and accessories. From fishing to cruising to family fun, there are boats for every lifestyle, activity and budget. Everything from luxury yachts to kayaks will be displayed on land and in the water at the San Diego Convention Center and Marriott Marina. Booths showcasing the latest in engines, marine electronics and accessories will be available, too. The four-day event is the once-a-year opportunity to compare makes and models, secure insurance and financing and gear up with the latest accessories all in one place. Big Night San Diego: The fifth annual 91X Big Night San Diego at the Sheraton Hotel and Marina is the largest New Year’s Eve celebration in town! More than 3,500 people are expected to attend the event, which includes all drinks, an hors d’oeuvre buffet, 12 unique party areas, six dance floors, 11 party bands and DJs, “massive midnight celebration,” party favors and more. Ticket prices continue to increase based on demand for the event, so check out the Web site for current rates.
