KPBS presents another screening of ‘Anyone and Everyone’
KPBS San Diego will present another screening of Anyone and Everyone, a documentary by local filmmaker Susan Polis Schutz. The film documents several parents who have a son or daughter who is gay. The story interviews families from different religious and ethnic backgrounds including Japanese, Bolivian, Cherokee, Mormon, Jewish, Catholic and Hindu. Through their interviews, parents describe how their children revealed to them that they were gay and also talk about struggling with the pain their sons and daughters have dealt with, such as not being accepted by relatives and friends and being ostracized by their religious congregations.
A screening of Anyone and Everyone will be held at The San Diego Public Library on Sunday, Feb. 10 from 2-4 p.m. An open forum discussion will immediately follow the film. The event is free and the public is welcome to attend.
To view a three-minute trailer of the film, visit www.anyoneandeveryone.com. The San Diego Public Library Central Branch is located at 820 E St. in Downtown.
Graffiti Control Program launches online reporting system
The City of San Diego’s Graffiti Control Program recently launched an online graffiti reporting system. The online form eliminates the need for citizens to call the Graffiti Control Hotline and enables city staff to respond to requests more quickly.
According to the City’s Graffiti Control Program Web site, graffiti is a sign of urban decay. Graffiti generates fear of neighborhood crime and instability. It is costly, destructive, lowers property values and sends a message that people of the community are not concerned about the appearance of their neighborhoods. It is also against the law.
In November 2000, the San Diego City Council amended the City’s Graffiti Ordinance to revise the official definition of “graffiti” as follows: “Graffiti means any unauthorized inscription, word, figure, picture, or design that is sprayed, marked, cut, posted, pasted or otherwise affixed, drawn or painted on any surface of public or private property.”
The city’s graffiti reporting system is available online at www.sandiego.gov/graffiti. Those without Internet access may still contact the Graffiti Control Program at 619-525-8522. Once a report is received, crews remove graffiti from city property usually within four days. City code compliance officers must notify private property owners of graffiti on their property and of their responsibility to remove it. Depending on the cooperation of property owners, it could take longer for graffiti to be removed from private properties.
