Latin actors in 1920’s Hollywood: The Hispanic Theatre presents The Gods of Hollywood tonight and tomorrow night at the ARK Center for the Performing Arts Theatre at 8:00 p.m. Based on true stories, the play depicts Latin actors in 1920’s and ’30s Hollywood who became cinema stars, but were persecuted by the press for being gay. Santa Barbara Pride 2003: Today and tomorrow is Santa Barbara’s annual Pride celebration. In honor of this year’s festival falling on National Coming Out Day, the theme is “Come Out, Come Out Wherever You Are.” Events include the gay identity art exhibit, reception and silent auction, Read OUT Loud!, literary salon, Queer Gearhead Invasion, and, of course, the downtown block party. 120 Million Years Old: The world’s oldest species of flowering plant, orchids in full bloom from across the world will be on display at the San Diego International Orchid Fair today from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and tomorrow from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the activity center at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. It’s National Coming Out Day! The Human Rights Campaign Foundation sponsors National Coming Out Day every year on Oct. 11 to commemorate the 1987 march on Washington for GLBT equality, and to promote awareness of GLBTs living open, honest lives. Commercial vs. fine art: The Muse Gallery presents four artists who champion the feud between the fine art and commercial art communities. What Happened? exemplifies the modern artist struggling to reconcile the modern artistic worlds of fine and commercial art. Featuring artists Acamonchi, Charles Glaubitz, Guy Burwell, and Joshua Krause, an opening reception is being held from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. The show runs through Nov. 2. Bowling for a cause: San Diego Bowling Tournaments, a non-profit organization aiming to raise funds for needy families and the homeless during the upcoming holiday season, will hold its first benefit, the “SDBT FirstBowl,” on Oct. 11-12 at Mira Mesa Bowl. Bowlers will compete for over $18,000 in prizes, and proceeds from registration fees will go directly to help disadvantaged families. SDBT works in conjunction with San Diego-based Mama’s Kitchen and the Salvation Army. “Balboa Park for All” rally: Join The Center and Scouting For All to oppose the Boy Scouts of America’s use of public land in San Diego. The Boy Scouts of America discriminate against GLBTs and non-religious believers. The rally starts at 11:00 a.m. at the corner of Upas and Richmond streets in Balboa Park.

A little Italy with Martin and Lewis: The ninth annual Little Italy Festa, presented by Precious Cheese Features, takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. today. Visitors can enjoy Italian music on three stages, an Alfa Romeo car show, bocce ball and stickball tournaments, and artists creating works of art on concrete at Chalk La Strada. This year’s theme is “The New World of Little Italy,” and will be headlined by the sons of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. Ricci Martin will open for Gary Lewis & The Playboys. The two entertainers will also team up to perform some of their fathers’ legendary material. The event is held on India Street between Grape and Ash, in the heart of San Diego’s Little Italy.

Guerilla Poster Art: Current Affairs Bookstore in North Park hosts a book signing at 7:30 p.m. with guerilla poster artist and columnist for the LA Weekly, Robbie Conal. Conal is the author of Artburn, a collection of the best pages from his satirical monthly column in the LA Weekly. Subjects include George Dubya, Pat Robertson, Bill Gates and Jerry Falwell. Slapstick, mayhem and laughter: That’s what you’ll get if you go see The Aquila Theatre Company’s production of Shakespeare’s Comedy Of Errors at the La Jolla Village Playhouse at 8:00 p.m. The Playhouse’s last production of the 2003 season, Comedy of Errors runs Tuesday through Sunday until Nov. 16. Bingo night at The Center: Come on, when was the last time you played Bingo? Well get with it! The game is back in vogue, and on the first three Tuesdays of every month it’s even for a good cause. The Center’s seven-year tradition has raised over $100,000 for programs and social services at The Center. Surfing the Great Depression: The California Surf Museum in Oceanside presents “A Tribute to Doc Ball and the Early California Surfriders” today from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A practicing dentist most of his life, “Doc” John Heath Ball is considered the godfather of California surfing, and surfed well into his 90’s. His 1945 book California Surfriders inspired the Surf Museum’s display of photos, artifacts, boards and other media. Admission is free. Call (760) 721-6876 for more information.
