Leap 4 Change: The Rubber Rose is proud to host Leap 4 Change, a fund-raiser and chocolate tasting event, from 6-9 p.m. Donated pieces from 20 local artists will be sold through a silent auction with all proceeds benefitting the San Diego Foundation 4 Change, a local nonprofit supporting grassroots movements in San Diego and Tijuana. Admission to the event is free and for those 21 years and older only. The art auction begins at $25. The Rubber Rose is located at 3812 Ray St. in North Park. www.leap4change.org
Mom’s Night Out: The moms have been asking for a night out, so here it is! Get a sitter, put the kids to bed and head over to South Park Bar & Grill for a special Leap Year Party. There will be food, a DJ, dancing, an opportunity drawing and giveaways sponsored by Lavender Lens and local businesses. All proceeds will go to Family Matters. Rufskin Fashion Show: Rufskin Denim, the hot San Diego men’s fashion line featuring denim, tops, denim swim underwear, accessories and more, will host its annual fashion show at Rich’s. Attendees will get a preview of the new collection, as worn by the hot Rufskin models. DJ Nikno will spin. The fashion show will begin around midnight. North Park Craft Mafia: The San Diego North Park Craft Mafia will host its next stylish craft show for present the work of its newest crafty debutantes! This will be the first show for the group’s newest members to present their work. The event will include food, coffee, shopping and a good time. Miguel Bosé: Miguel Bosé has been a force in Latin music during a career that has spanned 21 albums, roles in more than 35 films, his own television show and work as a theater director. During his career as an international pop star, Bosé portrayed a cross dresser in Pedro Almodovar’s High Heels, worked with Andy Warhol on two videos, and witnessed the banning of his video “No Encuentro un Momento Pa’ Olvidar” for its controversial sexual imagery. Defying the contemporary formula for pop success, his music has been described as a global fusion of many musical influences. As part of his Papitour 2008, Bosé will take the stage at San Diego State University’s Cox Arena for a 7 p.m. show. Tickets range from $59.75-$85.75. Dancing in the Dark: Playwright Douglas Carter Beane (Xanadu) and director Gary Griffin (The Color Purple) are bringing the musical extravaganza Dancing in the Dark to the Old Globe Theatre. The show is based on MGM’s classic musical The Band Wagon, and audience members will be dancing in the aisles to a score packed with classics including “A Shine on Your Shoes” and “That’s Entertainment!” Tickets are $52.
