Unwind at the Grind: Wind down at The Urban Grind Café after a long week of work. Friday and Saturday nights at 6 p.m. are Unwind at the Grind. The popular local café is transformed into a unique venue, featuring wine, a newly released martini menu and a cool atmosphere. Drinks are reasonably priced. TMI: T.M.I. (Too Much Information) is a word-performance show for homos, transfolk, hags, feminists, fairies, femme-ists, S.C.U.M. Manifesto Fan Club members, lesbos, queerpunx, womanists, polyamorites, tough old broads, baby-butches, lesbian schoolteachers, second-wavers, anarchist cheerleaders, bisexual plushies, bois, feminist straight guys (who know how to take up very little psychic space and don’t think their pony-tail will save them), old-fashioned diesel dykes, and their friends who like to perform word-based work and watch writers and performers groove, live on stage. In addition to featured performances, audience members have the opportunity to sign-up for a five-minute slot to read and perform their original work. Red Hot Salsa Soul: Put your dancing shoes on and don’t you dare miss an evening of sizzling fun on the dance floor with Red Hot Salsa Soul, a women’s nightclub featuring DJ Laura Jane spinning great salsa-soul dance music, door prizes, dessert and more. The event, which is sponsored by The Center’s Women’s Resource Center and San Diego LGBT Pride, runs from 6-9 p.m. at The Center. Tickets are available at the door for just $5. Easter Bonnet Parade & Hat Contest: Everyone is invited to The Park at the Park at Petco Park for the annual Easter Bonnet Parade & Hat Contest! The event will include hat making, a parade, an Easter egg hunt and other fun activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A hat-making workshop will provide participants with all of the tools and techniques to create a fabulous Easter hat. Following the workshops, hats will be displayed in the hat contest and parade. Children 2-12 years old can search for more than 8,000 candy-filled eggs in the Easter egg hunt. Advanced admission for the parade and hat contest is $5 per child and $10 per adult. Admission on the day of the event is $6 for kids and $12 for adults. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Hematology/Oncology Department of Pediatrics Research at UCSD Medical Center Hillcrest. FlawLes: The crew at FlawLes.com is turning the rooftop of the Ivy Hotel into a lesbian playground for a special Easter night event! The event, which runs from 8 p.m. to midnight, is a fund-raiser for the Susan G. Komen Three-Day for the Cure. The Ivy will be serving up free food by Celebrity Chef Damon Gordon, as well as drink specials specifically for the FlawLes event! For those who enjoy video games, the Ivy will open up the hotel’s rooftop Cabana Suite to sample and play unreleased video games from Sony Online Entertainment. The event will include DJs, beautiful and sexy performance art dancers and tasteful fashion vignettes by Andria Renee Designs. Easter Lily Display: From March 14 through April 16, Balboa Park’s Botanical Building will be filled with 300 fragrant Easter lilies. The Botanical Building, filled with an ever-changing landscape of beautiful and interesting plant, is open Friday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission is always free. 50+ Dine Out: The 50 and Better Club invites the community to its Dine Out Luncheon. Diners will meet at The Old Mill Café (formerly the Lumberjack Grill) at noon. The 50 and Better Club strives to create a safe space where those 50 years and older will have access to important resources and referrals regarding health care, social services and community activities. Hermanas, Presente!: In observance of Women’s History month, The Rubber Rose would like to remember those women and girls who have been lost to violence, and celebrate the many survivors across all borders and boundaries. Hermanas, Presente! will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will showcase The Clothesline Project, a visual representation of domestic violence and sexual assault, created by those who have been directly affected; artwork by Celeste Roberts; and a film that highlights the femicides of Cuidad Juarez, Mexico. Jes Hudak: L.A.’s Jes Hudak will perform live alongside San Diego rapper Bushwalla at U31 Bar Lounge. Hudak is a singer-songwriter whose “weapons of choice” are the piano and her voice. She has also been known to wield a guitar from time to time. Seeing her live is quite an adventure, as she takes her audience on a journey through laughter and love, sadness and heartbreak. Her voice is powerful and soulful, and her songs are original, emotional and real. The show begins at 8 p.m. Cover charge is $5.
