In the Pit

The Los Angeles Leather Coalition’s production of Xposed: Mr. LA Leather 2008 was quite the leather contest…L.A. style. Like San Diego, Los Angeles leather does a whole week (or more) of activities designed to expose attendees to the kinkier side of the city.
The events last week not only included a vendor mart, seminars and parking lot parties, there was also kinky karaoke, a kinky film festival with movie screenings and a roast and toast. That doesn’t include all the parties – the Hell on Wheels skating party, Sweat dance party and a variety of play parties.
Of course, all these things and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, who produce the Mister Sister Contest, just scream Hollywood!
One would have to have a huge set of balls or be hung “like we like it” to wear a vest that says “Mister Sister.” Frankly, if he’s hung “like we like it” I don’t care what the hell his vest says.
The Los Angeles leather community is one of the few that have mastered the concept of the “feeder” contest, which is a testament to it strong leadership, understanding of community and sense of camaraderie.
If there’s any drama behind the scenes (one can only assume there is or must be) it certainly doesn’t air it to the rest of the leather world.
Out of the 10 hopefuls, Ross Wood, Mr. Regiment, walked away with the title and the chance to follow in the footsteps of Mike Gerle at International Mr. Leather in May. Wood, who is from New Zealand, has it all… he’s handsome, knowledgeable and well-spoken with an accent.
One of the best parts of the contest was seeing the San Diego titleholders and leather peeps that made the trip. Our friends from L.A. make it down each year to support us and I’m happy we support them. Unfortunately, some Southern California leather communities seem to be suffering from heatstroke and can’t to drive down for others’ events. Kudos to the leather folks in L.A. for a job well done and in the words of an old dead white man, “really good show.”
There are two “must attend” events scheduled for Friday, April 4, so get out your most versatile leather-ish outfit. First, the Meet the New Mr. and Ms. San Diego Leather party will take place at the Eagle at 9 p.m. Sidney and Donna may be interested in what you have to say for right now, but that won’t last much longer. So once you’re done boring them with your agenda head over to dance in the dark at Rich’s Bear Blackout. DJ Bryan Pruett will give us the sounds to bump and grind to, so be ready to get sweaty. Leather or black is requested and it’s free with a gym or military ID before 11 p.m., otherwise there is a $7 cover. Did you read that? FREE, so there’s no excuse!
The action continues at Bacchus House with “Bear Night” on Saturday, April 5. This is another “must go and be seen” event. We were there last month and the place was packed with bears, muscle bears, otters, wolves, wannabes and leather men. There’s someone for everyone, so you can’t complain “there’s no one to do in San Diego.”
Two weeks after that will be L.L. Bear at Rich’s. In case you’re pretty and can’t do math – that’s Saturday, April 19. Now, all you moaning and groaning bear and leather bitches get over yourself. The music last month was great. The energy was great. The men were great… well, most of them. We had a great time and those that didn’t have a great time didn’t want to have a great time. There’s always that one who will sit there with attitude all over his face no matter what. Ignore him, get out and have fun! We hate her and her attitude, anyway!
Finally, mark your calendar for Saturday, April 26. You MUST be at Bourbon Street for Backroom Reloaded, which happens the fourth Saturday of each month. We’re planning something big and hot for this one, so plan to go. No more details, just be there or you’ll be sorry!
There ya’ have it. As I usually say after a long leather weekend, “I’m going back to bed.” See ya in the pit.
