Shelter: In the feature film premiere of Shelter, Zach (Trevor Wright) feels shackled to his family and forgoes art school. Thankfully, surfing breaks up the monotony of his days. Life is about to take an unexpected series of turns, though, for Zach. His best friend and surfing buddy, Gabe (Ross Thomas), leaves home to attend college, and, as luck would have it, Gabe’s older brother Shaun (Brad Rowe), a fellow surfer and a writer, steps in to take Gabe’s place. Zach finds himself attracted to Shaun.

Transgender Day of Empowerment: The Center will host the fifth annual Transgender Day of Empowerment from 6-9 p.m. at The Center. The theme of the event will be “Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future,” and will include community awards, refreshments and musical entertainment. Featured speakers include transgender community leaders Drew House, Travis Curley and Ms. Major. Meet the Titleholders: San Diego Leather Pride invites the community to the San Diego Eagle for a Meet Your Titleholders party. The event will feature recently crowned Mr. San Diego Leather 2008, Sidney McFadden and first runner up Rob Donaty. McFadden who was sponsored by Urban Body Gym, was crowned on March 15 at the annual Mr. San Diego Leather Contest at Rich’s. The event, which begins at 9 p.m., will be hosted by Mr. San Diego Leather 2007, Lee Butler. Body Heat: The Rubber Rose presents Body Heat – Queer Femme Pornography Tour from 7:30-9:30 p.m. The event will be a collective of fierce, sassy, irreverent femme artists setting ablaze performance art communities and smashing femme stereotypes. Porn, kink, smut and erotica art forms will all be represented. Body Heat will turn you on. It will challenge all of your gender, sexual, feminist, social and political boundaries, and assumptions. The organizers promise to “entertain the hell out of you” and “leave you panting, begging, and dripping for more.” The event is open to anyone 18 years and older. Annual Women’s Night: Annual Women’s Night is a celebration of San Diego’s lesbian, bisexual and transgender women’s community – the only event of its kind in San Diego County! This year’s event will be held at the beautiful Paradise Point Resort & Spa from 7-11 p.m. The event theme is “Carnival Nights” and will feature live performance, a silent auction, a DJ and dancing, gambling stations, and a delicious assortment of tasting stations featuring flavors from Caribbean. During Women’s Night, The Center will recognize local women who have had a positive impact on San Diego’s GLBT community, including the Women of the Year. All proceeds benefit The Center’s Women’s Resource Center program which serves over 1,000 LBT women every year. Single tickets are $125, and VIP tickets are $250. San Diego Foundation For Change Celebrates 25: The San Diego Foundation for Change will host a 6 p.m. gala celebration at the Scripps Birch Aquarium to honor its 25th anniversary. The theme will be “Planting Seeds of Change, Growing Grassroots Movements,” and will include dinner, socializing, entertainment, awards, a spectacular ocean view and more. All proceeds will support the Foundation for Change as the organization works to expand its work supporting emerging leaders and organizations working for progressive social change in San Diego and Tijuana. Dreamguys: The San Diego Men’s Chorus (SDMC) is presenting a tribute to Boy Bands and Broadway Babes with its special Dreamguys show. The show, which will be performed one night only, begins at 8 p.m. in the magnificent Balboa Theatre. “American Idol” sensation and star of Rent on Broadway, Frenchie Davis, will be the featured performer at the show. A post-concert reception and cast party will be held at the U.S. Grant Hotel immediately following. Guests will be able to support the SDMC, meet Frenchie Davis and experience the opulence of the freshly renovated U.S. Grant Hotel while enjoying wine and light hors d’oeuvres. Tickets for the show range from $32-$42 and can be purchased online. Tickets for the after party are required and will be sold at the show. Big Gay BBQ: The community is invited to San Diego State University for the LGBT Student Union’s twice-yearly Big Gay BBQ. The event, which runs from 5:30-8:30 p.m., have become one of the largest student-organized events on the campus. HRC Connect: The San Diego Chapter of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) will host its April social event, HRC Connect, from 7-9 p.m. at Hawthorn’s Restaurant Lounge. The HRC Connect events bring together the San Diego GLBT and straight ally community in a social environment to champion equality. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the HRC and membership in the organization. The HRC is the nation’s largest civil rights organization working for GLBT equality.
