EarthFair: Billed as the largest free environmental fair in the world, San Diego’s EarthFair 2008 will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Balboa Park. This year will be the 19th anniversary of the annual event, which draws around 60,000 visitors. Produced entirely by volunteers, EarthFair will include more than 200 exhibitors, special theme areas, a food pavilion, a children’s activity area and five entertainment venues. EarthFair will also include a children’s earth parade and alternative fuel vehicle parade and show. Participants are encouraged to ride a bike or take public transportation to the event. Glow in the Dark Tour: Grammy award-winning Kanye West will rock the San Diego Sports Arena during the West Coast leg of his Glow in the Dark Tour. Dillingham III Community Grant. A $20 minimum donation will include entertainment, an auction and raffle, and food. City Commissioner Nicole Murray-Ramirez will serve as the host for the evening. The Benjamin F. Dillingham III Community Grant was established in July 2000 and has awarded more than $75,000 in financial assistance to community members in need. Gentlemen’s Martini Night: Gentlemen’s Martini Night invites gay men and their friends twice a month to a new, exciting and upscale venue. A mandatory dress code is enforced and the group has a “proper behavior” policy to promote an image of social awareness and public acceptance. One of the goals of the event is to erase perceived negative stereotypes of the gay community. It also allows gay and gay friendly people to mix and mingle in an environment that is conducive to developing camaraderie. Dining Out for Life: Dining Out for Life is an international fund-raising event for HIV/AIDS service organizations. In exchange for pledging 25-100 percent of the day’s food and liquor sales, restaurants receive promotional materials and are listed in a citywide marketing and advertising campaign in an effort to increase customer traffic. The funds raised will benefit The Center’s HIV/AIDS services and prevention programs. Sixty-two restaurants and bars in San Diego County are participating in Dining Out for Life. North Park Farmers Market: The North Park Famers Market is open every Thursday from 3 p.m. until sunset.
