“After all [the San Diego Democratic Club’s] breast beating about ‘obtaining basic human rights’ for its members and endorsing GLBT-friendly candidates for office, they can hardly endorse one like [Scott] Peters …”
Dear Editor:
Now that the San Diego Democratic Club has rated Carl DeMaio an “unacceptable” candidate for City Council because he takes money from a developer on record opposing gay marriage, is the same club going to rescind its endorsement of Councilman Scott Peters for City Attorney knowing he voted to keep the Boy Scouts in Balboa Park? After all their breast beating about “obtaining basic human rights” for its members and endorsing GLBT-friendly candidates for office, they can hardly endorse one like Peters, who openly sides with those who deny such rights to Gays, and still keep their mission to support the GLBT-friendly candidates.
Of course, not to deny Peters his endorsement and run their guilt-by-association number they so piously use against DeMaio not only leaves them open to the charge of being unwilling to practice what they preach, but to having a double standard: that Gay candidates are being judged more harshly than gay-friendly ones – a club practice others have been subjected to in the past – as if you are only entitled to the SDDC’s endorsement if you accept their agenda first and forget about your own! Really? Well, I don’t have to like the Rev. Jeremiah Wright in order to vote for Barack Obama; or like developer Doug Manchester to vote for Carl DeMaio. But I’ll be damned if I have to like bankrupting pension schemes to vote for Scott Peters.

“Representatives Susan Davis and Bob Filner have not yet committed to either Clinton or Obama. They need to see that the community is rallying around the inevitable nominee, Senator Obama …”
Dear Editor:
I am writing to urge you to rescind your endorsement of Hillary Clinton and endorse Barack Obama for President. Senator Obama has now won more delegates, states and total votes than Senator Clinton. She has no real chance of being the nominee. Her continued campaign only weakens our chances of electing a Democratic as President in November. Her “experience” has now devolved into saying or doing anything to get elected.
Also, two local super-delegates to the Democratic Convention remain un-committed. Representatives Susan Davis and Bob Filner have not yet committed to either Clinton or Obama. They need to see that the community is rallying around the inevitable nominee, Senator Obama, despite having voted for Senator Clinton during the Primary election. Your endorsement of Obama would signal to Representatives Davis and Filner that they can count on our continued support even if they endorse Senator Obama.
You should also note that, the day after the Indiana and North Carolina primaries, DC’s premier GLBT publication, the Washington Blade, rescinded its endorsement of Hillary Clinton and endorsed Barack Obama. The Blade cited Ms. Clinton’s recent Obama-bashing and over-the-top pandering as reasons to call for Clinton to end her campaign and endorse Obama. For the sake of electing a President supportive of the GLBT community this November, I urge you to do the same.

“Nice to find such a consistent number of well-written, articulate and insightful articles.”
Dear Editor:
I had the pleasure of spending several days in San Diego a week ago for the first time. It was a remarkable experience. Fortunately, I had met several guys on sillverdaddies before arriving, and they were able to give me a most pleasant introduction to both the Hillcrest area and the Gaslamp as well. Being from NW Indiana very close to Chicago, it was exciting to find another city which was so gay friendly and hospitable.
In the process of my stay, I picked up a copy of your magazine at Caliph’s. I can report that I have read it pretty much cover to cover and been impressed with the articles. One, in particular, really resonated. It is the commentary by Gary Thayer entitled, “How many friends do you really have?” He truly encourages us to define more carefully the word “friend.” I have certainly taken a hard look at my long list of email contacts and begun to do some weeding.
Please convey my compliments to Gary on his insight. I just wish I were out there so I could get your magazine regularly.
Nice to find such a consistent number of well-written, articulate and insightful articles.

“Any gay guy that really wants to stay in the military can play the game and complete his service.”
Dear Editor:
God only knows what is going to show-up at that recruiting station! Most gays that get discharged for being gay rat on themselves because they want out. Over 80% do this, often to avoid going Iraq. Any gay guy that really wants to stay in the military can play the game and complete his service. Harvey Milk and plenty of gays did.
