No green eggs and ham: The Center holds its monthly Community Coalition Breakfast on the third Friday of every month, starting promptly at 7:30 a.m. in the auditorium. The event is an opportunity for the GLBT and GLBT-friendly communities to mingle, educate, and discuss diverse issues affecting the struggle for fairness and equality. Identified flying objects: The Miramar Air Show is the most popular event during San Diego’s annual Fleet Week. The theme this year celebrates the centennial of the Wright brother’s seminal flight. Family Matters annual carnival: Join family matters for their annual carnival, potluck and costume contest, tonight from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium at The Center. Go Figure: Art About and For the Body: San Diego area artists’ meditations on the human form are on display at Nofufi Gallery until Nov. 16. The show is a combination of painting, sculpture and jewelry. A special reception is being held today from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., free and open to the public, with live music, free massage and reflexology treatments, and a free art giveaway bonanza at 5:30 p.m. The gallery is open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 90-C North Coast Hwy 101. The Center has been a major support network for the local GLBT community since it first opened in 1973, providing essential resources such as HIV/AIDS counseling, a Women’s Resource Center, computer training, workshops, case management and discussion groups. Festival of lights: Gallery Alexander is holding its ninth annual Menorah show through Dec. 26. The exhibition features a collection of Menorahs, Hanukah candles, Dreidels, Shabbat Candleholders, Mezuzzot, and other work crafted by Israeli and American artists. Surrealistic athleticism: Diavolo Dance Theater presents The Dreamcatcher tonight at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido. Diavolo assembles large-scale interdisciplinary performances that incorporate leaping, flying and twirling. The Dreamcatcher abstracts the Native-American legend of the dream catcher into a mythic quest for the healing force of a feminine angel and the battle with the alter ego – the masculine trickster.
