Unless you’ve been adopted by a wild pack of wolves and living in a cave, you’ve no doubt noticed the sun is finally poking its head from behind the clouds.
To take advantage of the warmer weather, a few of my friends and I came up with a fun way to enjoy the San Diego sunshine as well as indulge in some good eats and treats on any given Saturday: a pub crawl.
We’ve narrowed down the crawl to three main streets in and around the gayborhood, with stops at several bars and restaurants on each street. Either by foot or pedal (if you have a bicycle, be a little “greener” and ride that two-wheeler – some of the local bike shops also rent them for $20 and up per day), check out one of the following pub crawls and their Saturday specials!
Crawl No. 1: Adams Avenue
Mom always taught me not to start my day on an empty stomach, so begin this pub crawl at Rosie O’Grady’s for a BYOB (Build Your Own Breakfast) for only $6.99 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This includes any combination (or everything) on the brunch menu, and coffee, tea, fresh fruit and a sweet roll bar. Rosie O’Grady’s is located at 3402 Adams Avenue.
After you’ve stuffed yourself until your heart’s content, move along to The Ould Sod for $1.50 domestic beers. There’s a great jukebox with old Irish favorites (and some current hits too) and karaoke in the evening. The Ould Sod is located at 3373 Adams Ave.
The next stop is the Triple Crown Pub, where you can entertain yourself with games of pool, ping pong, shuffle board, darts and foosball. The bar only serves beer and wine, but it has happy hour on Saturdays and beer specials priced between $2.25 and $3.75. Triple Crown Pub is located at 3221 Adams Ave.
You have reached the end of this pub crawl when you get to Kadan, an unassuming and casual dive bar on the corner of 30th and Adams. Kadan has $1 well drinks during happy hour and $2.75 domestic pints as well as games of darts and chess. Kadan is located at 4696 30th St.

After a Friday night of partying, kick off this pub crawl with some good conversation and much-needed caffeine at Urban Grind. You can also nibble on the Grind’s tasty selection of salads, sandwiches, snacks and desserts. If you’re there during the evening hours, check out “Unwind @ The Grind” between 6 p.m. and midnight, and enjoy some tapas and a drink or two off its new martini and wine menu. Urban Grind is located at 3797 Park Blvd.
After a nice caffeinated-pick-me-up, stroll on down to Gulf Coast Grill for a menu full of delectable dishes (my friend loves its fried green tomatoes) and $5 Voodoo Punch (don’t ask what’s in it – just drink). Also take advantage of Gulf Coast’s happy hour menu from 4:30-6:30 p.m. with $3.50 drink specials and appetizers for $7 or less. Gulf Coast Grill is located at 4130 Park Blvd.
The third stop on the crawl is Lei Lounge, which has brought back Saturday happy hour from 5-7 p.m. with half-price signature drinks. If you’re still chillin’ and feasting off eye candy in one of the cabanas at the end of the night, order some food off the late-night menu and half-price premium drinks from 11 p.m. to close. Lei Lounge is located at 4622 Park Blvd.
Lancer’s Cocktail Lounge is the last stop on this pub crawl, equipped with pool tables, darts, video games and a jukebox playing classic punk and alternative music. Although there aren’t specific drink specials on Saturdays, you can still order a potent drink for less than $5. Lancer’s is located at 4671 Park Blvd.
Crawl No. 3: University Avenue
Most of us have walked – or stumbled (don’t lie, sir) – by the bars and eateries down University Avenue, but do you know what goodies they have in store for you?
Start your Saturday with an all-you-can-eat buffet style Mexican brunch and all-you-can-drink sangria or champagne mimosas for $18.95 at Baja Betty’s. The brunch menu has a large selection of great food, including made-to-order scrambles, machaca, chorizo, home-made fresh tortillas, a taco bar, and yogurt and fruit. If you’re a huge tequila fan (college broke me of that habit), then stick around for tequila tastings on the first Saturday of each month from 3-5 p.m. You can receive six tastings for $25; $40 buys you a year membership. Baja Betty’s is located at 1421 University Ave.
Continue on the pub crawl to San Diego Sports Club, home of one of the longest happy hours in San Diego (noon to 7 p.m.) with $2 wells and other rotating specials. While you’re there, check out the pool tables, video games, digital jukebox and punching bag game (it’s super fun). San Diego Sports Club is located at 1271 University Ave.
Now that you’re stuffed and have some “liquid courage,” flirt with the cute bartenders at Wine Steals and partake in the $10 tastings on Saturdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Basically, $10 gets you a tasting glass and the chance to sample more than 25 wines. If wine isn’t what you’re looking for, you can order from a small selection of beers and some tasty white sangria. Wine Steals is located at 1243 University Ave.

If you’re still standing, keep the fun going at Flicks for happy hour from 2-7 p.m. with $4 Finlandia cocktails and complimentary pizza from Taste of Italy at 6pm, and play a game of NTN trivia, pool or darts. Each Saturday night at 10 p.m., five lucky winners of the Treasure Chest contest have the opportunity to win a $50 bar tab and the ensuing Wet Booty Contest awards a $100 cash prize to the winner.
Last but not least, party with the wild and crazy crew at Urban Mo’s during Margarita Madness from 2-7 p.m. All well margaritas are $2 off and all other margaritas are $1 off. And even though this particular Saturday crawl seems to have a Mexican flare to it, stick around for country dance lessons with Lee and DJ Rosa with no cover between 7-8:30 p.m. Urban Mo’s is located at 308 University Ave.
Regardless of what you do with your Saturday, make it one full of fun in the sun this summer!
