Amanda Lepore: Amanda Lepore will appear live at Rich’s for a very special show. Lepore has been New York City’s “it” girl since the early 1990s and will turn Rich’s into a clubgoer’s playground for one night only. European sensation Santiago Le Freak will keep the crowd dancing as he spins the “sexiest disco house on the planet.” Early arrival and “improper” attire are strongly suggested. A $100 prize and a giant bottle of p.i.n.k. vodka will be awarded to the “fiercest” diva or club kid. Cover is $15 and the event is for those 21 years and older only. San Diego County Fair: The San Diego County Fair is back in town for the “Summer of Sports.” The 2008 fair will run from Saturday, June 14 through Sunday, July 6. The “Summer of Sports” theme will celebrate a wide variety of sports at all levels, from youth to professional. The fair includes a huge line-up of entertainment, concerts, events, attractions, contests and competitive exhibits, and of course, the food booths. Headlining this year’s fair is Fergie on June 27. Fair tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for seniors and children, and children under five are free. A number of discounts are available on the fair’s Web site. Some concerts and entertainment require a separate ticket purchase. The San Diego County Fair is held on the Del Mar Fairgrounds at 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd. in Del Mar. www.sdfair.com
Wanda Sykes: Wanda Sykes has been called “one of the funniest stand up comics” by her peers and ranks among Entertainment Weekly’s 25 Funniest People in America. Sykes brings humor to a number of topics including politics, same-sex marriage, karma, health care, racial profiling, the pressure of being a woman and the perks of getting older. She will bring her humor to San Diego for an 8 p.m. concert at Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay. Tickets range $50-$404.50 with special dinner and room packages available. Red Hot Motown: The Center’s Women’s Resource Center presents another one of its “red hot” events – Red Hot Motown. The women’s nightclub style event will feature hot music with DJ Laura Jane from 6-9 p.m. at The Center. Attendees will enjoy door prizes, desserts, the company of great women, and other surprises. A no-host bar will also be available. Guests are encouraged to wear red attire. Tickets are available at the door. Cover is $5. Neon Electricity: Maystar, the creator and producer of the popular Club Pop Noir and Club Fashion Whore, will present a special one night only event, Neon Electricity at Static. The evening will include an AstroJump for party-goers to jump and dance in and music by DJs Edgartronic and Groundfloor. Attendees are encouraged to wear neon, day-glo, 80s or nu-rave attire. ROCK-STEP: ROCK-STEP, the organization formerly known as the Women’s Country Dance class, presents a Monday evening class at The Center. ROCK-STEP has a new, inclusive mission and is actively working towards building a strong and vibrant GLBT country western dance community in San Diego. The classes are for everyone, and intended to make each participant feel welcome, regardless of experience level. Beginners are encouraged to attend, and no partner is necessary. From 6:30-7 p.m., “first timers” are given time to practice and learn, followed by intermediate instruction from 7-8:30 p.m., which includes “spins and turns.” From 8:30-9:30 p.m. the dance floor is opened up for an open dancing period. Dancers should wear comfortable clothes and leather or leather-like shoes. A $3 donation is requested for each class. Remembering Harvey Milk: The 50 and Better Club invites the community to remember Harvey Milk at an afternoon playwriting workshop. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the death of Milk and Diversionary Theatre is creating a play to celebrate his life. Playwright Patricia Loughrey will be at the workshop to listen to the stories and memories of the participants and use some of the information in the creation of the play, Dear Harvey, which will open April 2009. Otay Ranch Farmers Market: San Diego’s newest shopping destination has recently added another great option on the local farmers market circuit! Otay Ranch Town Center will host the Otay Ranch Certified Farmer’s Market every Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. The market includes farm fresh produce and specialty food items and has a goal of bringing farmers and communities together. Each week also includes special entertainment, with the Sounds Perfect Jazz Band, Austin Anderson, Cruz Rodriguez, and Tinku performing on June 17.
