Earth, Wind & Fire: Enter the “Boogie Wonderland” with multi-platinum, Grammy-winning Earth, Wind & Fire as the band performs at the San Diego County Fair. Beginning its everlasting career in 1969, this funk band fuses different genres of music to produce the anthemic power of songs, such as “Getaway,” “That’s the Way of the World,” and “Let’s Groove.” Nearly 40 years, six Grammy awards, 20 nominations, and close to 20 albums later, the band continues to bring down the house in each of its performances. The 7:30 p.m. show is part of a huge line-up of summertime entertainment scheduled for this year’s fair. The concert is not included in fair admission; a separate ticket is required. The San Diego County Fair is held on the Del Mar Fairgrounds at 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd. in Del Mar. www.sdfair.com

‘Bye Bye Birdie’: The brand new, critically acclaimed, San Diego Musical Theatre will present in the production of Bye Bye Birdie June 20-29. This one’s a classic, and for those who haven’t seen it, you don’t want to miss it this time around, as it will be starring sexy native San Diego actor James Royce Edwards. Bye Bye Birdie is one of the most captivating musical shows of our time, done with the fondest affection. The satire tells the story of a rock n’ roll singer who is about to be inducted into the army. Edwards plays the singer, Conrad Birdie, an Elvis Presley type, has a pompadour and thick sideburns; he wears gaudy gold costumes and speaks in a rugged voice. Albert Peterson, his agent, is a very pleasant mild mannered young man. Peterson’s faithful secretary Rose Alvarez keeps him and Birdie moving forward in the world. Alvarez concocts one final national publicity plan before Birdie’s induction. With musical theatre classic songs such as “An English Teacher,” “What Did I Ever See in Him?,” “Put on a Happy Face,” and “One Boy,” Bye Bye Birdie tops the imagination in good old fashion fun and is not to be missed! San Diego Musical Theatre performances of Bye Bye Birdie start at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $60-$80 and can be purchased online or by calling the box office. San Diego Musical Theatre is located at East County Performing Arts Center at 210 E. Main St., in El Cajon. 858-560-5740, www.sandiegomusicaltheatre.com

George Gershwin Alone: The Old Globe Theatre’s production of George Gershwin Alone is a celebrated work about the legendary American composer, George Gershwin. The production is a delightful “play with music” by actor, playwright and Steinway concert artist Hershey Felder. The show incorporates the Gershwins’ best-known songs, from “The Man I Love” and “Someone to Watch Over Me,” through passages and songs from “An American in Paris” and “Porgy and Bess.” The first popular composer to use jazz as the foremost musical element in the serious concert hall, Gershwin absorbed the musical styles, rhythms and sophistication of the American spirit and created a musical language that made its mark on both classical and popular music throughout the world. Hershey Felder brings to life the spirit and talent of the legendary composer and pianist, leading audiences through the fascinating rhythms of Gershwin’s legendary songbook, while telling the tale of his tragically short life. The show runs from June 25-29, with various showtimes and ticket prices. The Old Globe is located at 1363 Old Globe Way in Balboa Park. www.oldglobe.org
