“It’s great to jump on the ‘green’ bandwagon, but to do so as part of a fad is useless and really lowers the quality of your publication.”
Dear Editor:
Please stop being “trendy” and start making trends for our community to follow. It’s great to jump on the “green” bandwagon, but to do so as part of a fad is useless and really lowers the quality of your publication. Just “looking” green doesn’t cut it any more. Your readers are educated!
For example – Michelle Fletcher, in your “green” feature, manages to reccomend using reverse osmosis in place of water delivery – and delivery’s “carbon footprint” – but at what cost? Did she decide to skip her research? I’m guessing she took a little nap.
In our water starved, desert landscape, she decided to leave out the little fact that for every gallon of reverse osmosis water made at home, the unit sends 4-8 GALLONS down the drain. 400% - 800% WASTE! But, as she points out, you don’t have to “lift big heavy jugs if water up onto the cooler anymore”! Tell Ms. Fletcher to get off her ass and spout the truth! Is the delivery truck really evil?

“Does [Nicole] only have one name for politically active women, confusing them all with congressional sisters, Representatives Loretta Sanchez and Linda Sanchez?”
Dear Editor:
In Nicole’s most recent column (Issue 1069 June 19, 2008) he again misidentifies a prominent politically active woman. The first time he called labor leader Lorena Gonzalez, Lorena Sanchez. Now he refers to former Congressmember and Gov. Davis’ Chief of Staff, Lynn Schenk as Lynn Sanchez! Does he only have one name for politically active women, confusing them all with congressional sisters, Representatives Loretta Sanchez and Linda Sanchez? Or, will he blame this misstep, as he did the Lorena gaffe, on the editor? If so, then the GLT needs a copy editor who knows and can correctly identify the political allies of our community, especially the women. This kind of error never seems to occur when discussing the latest hot bartender.

“I love to see GLT’s support for the marriage equality campaign.”
Dear Editor:
Terrific editorial. I love to see GLT’s support for the marriage equality campaign. I met Michael and son in fact while gathering signatures in Mission Valley 2 months ago and we chatted about our effort. As well as contributions we really will need volunteers (like me). Locally the Center is the place to go to volunteer. Whatever help you might give in this regard would be appreciated. It promises to be a long hard fight and the more volunteers I believe the better.

“I had to chuckle when I read the front page story in this week’s Union-Tribune, reporting that most religious leaders refuse to embrace same-sex marriage. I find this information irrelevant and hardly newsworthy.”
Dear Editor:
I had to chuckle when I read the front page story in this week’s Union-Tribune, reporting that most religious leaders refuse to embrace same-sex marriage. I find this information irrelevant and hardly newsworthy. After all, who has more magical power – a Maori witch-doctor, a Catholic priest, a Mormon bishop, an Islamic cleric, or a soothsayer from ancient Rome who predicts the future by examining the entrails of a disemboweled goat? To me it’s all baloney. Thomas Edison said it best: “Religion is bunk!”
