Sapphic Cinema: The Women’s Resource Center at The Center will host another Sapphic Cinema event, celebrating films for, by and about LBT women. The monthly film night, beginning at 7 p.m., is open to all women, who are encouraged to come with a date, or alone and meet someone new. June’s film is titled Lost and Delirious, and follows Mouse Bradford’s arrival at Perkins Girls College as she is “adopted” by her two senior roommates Paulie and Tory. Concessions will be available for sale throughout the evening, with proceeds benefiting the Women’s Resource Center. The event is free. True Colors Tour: The fight for GLBT equality is at the heart of the True Colors Tour. From day one, the tour has sought to raise awareness about the discrimination the GLBT community still faces and raise funds for the organizations that work every day on the community’s behalf. A portion of every ticket purchase is donated to national GLBT organizations such as the Human Rights Campaign and PFLAG. The 2008 Tour will stop in San Diego on June 27 at Viejas Concerts in the Park. The San Diego lineup includes host Carson Kressley, Cyndi Lauper, The B-52s, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Andy Bell of Erasure, and The Puppini Sisters. Tickets range from $82-$127. The Center invites the community to celebrate the 101st birthday of legendary artist Frida Kahlo. From 6-10 p.m. the event, to be held in the auditorium of The Center, will feature live bands and traditional dance performances, a Frida Kahlo look-a-like contest, food, beer and tequila, and art exhibits of Latino(a) artists. This event was a sold-out success last year, and promises to be even better this year. Tickets are $10 and include admission, one drink, one taco, and fun. Women’s Surf Group: The San Diego Women’s Surf Group is excited about the arrival of summer and is planning a late afternoon surf session and bonfire. Attendees should bring their surfboards, wet suits, and other “beach boogies” and have fun out on the water! Non-surfers are also welcome. There will be volleyball games and other activities, along with time to just “hang out.” The group is encouraging people to bring their guitars, ukeleles or drums to get a happy, mellow vibe around the bonfire. The event is free. The fun begins at 2 p.m. at La Jolla Shores by the main lifeguard tower. Look for the “Surfer Gal” flag. www.sdwomenssurfgroup.com

New Perspective Festival: The New Perspective Festival, a new theater festival devoted to San Diego writers, actors, and directors, in cooperation with Vantage Theatre, has completed casting and announced its lineup of plays. Twenty-four plays have been selected and each will be performed twice at the Swedenborg Church. Eight performances from the festival’s “Program Two” track will be performed at 7 p.m. Listing of plays and more information is available at the festival’s Web site. David Sedaris: With sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, David Sedaris has become one of America’s pre-eminent humor writers. The great skill with which he slices through cultural euphemisms and political correctness proves that Sedaris is a master of satire and one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today. Sedaris will appear at Copley Symphony Hall for an 8 p.m. show as part of the UCSD Art Power! series. Tickets for the postponed show originally scheduled for Oct. 31, 2007 will be honored on this date, if exchanged at point of purchase. Fellowship of Older Gays: The Fellowship of Older Gays (F.O.G.) is a social organization for older gay men in San Diego. The group meets every Tuesday and Saturday morning at 10 a.m. for a coffee social at The Open Air Café. These socials give members and guests time to relax, socialize, and enjoy a morning out. F.O.G. also hosts a number of other events throughout the month including a weekly discussion group and monthly movie night. Guys, Games & Grub: Each month, more than 100 men gather at The Center to play board and card games, make new friends and enjoy pizza, beer and soft drinks. Guys, Games & Grub is a free event open to all men 21 years and older, with guys from all age groups well represented. The July event promises to be the biggest, wildest and most exciting Guys, Games & Grub of the year! Rhythm and the Method: A Southern-California based band specializing in original music, Rhythm and the Method is in a genre of its own! The talented group skillfully blends the sounds of rock, blues and funk to create a unique, revolutionary sound.
