Wall of Honor Ceremony: The San Diego LGBT Community Center and the Imperial Court de San Diego will host the fifth annual San Diego LGBT Community Wall of Honor Ceremony from 6-8 p.m. in the auditorium of The Center. The Wall recognizes and celebrates those San Diego GLBT community members and allies who have had a significant positive impact on the San Diego GLBT community. The 2008 Honorees are Fred Acheson, Larry Baza, Michael Clark, Phyllis Jackson, George Murphy and Frank Stiriti. RSVPs are requested for this free event. Bottle Shock: Critics are calling Bottle Shock the next Sideways or Little Miss Sunshine. The film is based on a true story of love, victory and fermentation. This Sunday Film Festival favorite will open in San Diego on Aug. 15 at Landmark’s Hillcrest Cinemas and La Jolla Village Cinemas. Tickets prices and showtimes vary. Art Rocks: As the University Heights community gears up for the third annual University Heights Art Open, Sept. 6-7, a kick-off event titled “Art Rocks” will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 15. Seventeen artists will turn large river rocks, the neighborhood’s signature building element, into works of art that will be on display at the September event. The Art Rocks and Art Open kick-off event is free and open to the public and will be held at Swedenborg Hall located at 1531 Tyler Ave. www.uharts.org

Bouncing by the Bay: Family Matters invites all families to a fun day on the bay. A kids’ bouncer will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with plenty of age-appropriate jumping time! Guests should bring lawn games, a blanket, chairs, umbrellas, sunscreen, picnic food, and snacks and drinks for their family. Everyone is welcome to this free event which will be held on Mission Bay at Ski Beach located off of Vacation Road. Pool Party III: Guys Like Us (GLU) is hosting its third annual pool party to benefit AIDS Walk San Diego. The event, which will run from noon to 6 p.m., will include go-go dancers, a fashion show, water games and other surprises. The $20 ticket price will include food, beverages, and fun. There will also be opportunity drawings every hour during the party, where guests will win a number of prizes donated by local restaurants and businesses. The party will be held at a private home. Salsa Sunday: As part of the weekly Salsa Sunday, Belly Up Tavern will feature San Diego’s Orquesta Primo, a salsa combo started by three cousins. The group will perform its version of traditional salsa music, layering tightly woven percussion with standup bass and piano. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., with the show beginning at 8 p.m. Salsa dance lessons will begin at 8:30 p.m. Cover is $10. Belly Up Tavern, a 21 and up venue, is located at 143 S. Transgender: A Senior Perspective: The 50 and Better Club invites the community to a special edition of the Lunch and Learn series from noon to 1:30 p.m. at The Center. Sister Suicide Scareoke: The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will host Bourbon Street’s Suicide Scaraoke – “fingering someone to sing a song of your choice.” The Sisters will keep the crowd entertained all night long as brave participants take the microphone and “scare-nade” the audience. Sign-up begins at 9:30 p.m. with the show at 10 p.m. “You-call-it” shots will be available all night long for $2. Proceeds benefit the Sisters’ Condom Fund. Mama’s Kitchen Wine Tasting: Mama’s Kitchen invites the community to its 13th annual Wine Tasting Event being held at Bourbon Street. Fine wines compliments of Southern Wine & Spirits will be paired with delicious delights provided by top local restaurants and caterers. Guests will have a chance to participate in an exciting opportunity drawing as well as a silent auction featuring fabulous packages. North Park Farmers Market: The North Park Farmers Market is open every Thursday until sunset. Visitors can browse from a wide selection of fruits, vegetables, nuts, flowers and other items. The farmers market is a great place to stock up on low priced, fresh items for the upcoming week. Also, a number of promotional booths are available to provide information about local businesses and services. Musicians are usually on hand to entertain shoppers.
