Sapphic Cinema: Do you like to watch movies and eat popcorn with other women? Then check out Sapphic Cinema, the Women’s Resource Center’s film night featuring movies by, for and about queer women! Sapphic Cinema takes place on the fourth Friday of every month, at 7 p.m., at The Center Sapphic’s Oct. 24 film is Kissing Jessica Stein. This is a free event, with snacks and refreshments available. All proceeds will benefit the Women’s Resource Center. Check it out … you might just meet someone at intermission!

“California Hold ‘em” Poker Tournament: There will be a co-ed “California Hold ‘em” Poker Tournament to benefit the Toni Atkins Lesbian Health Fund. This unique fund was established by The Imperial Court de San Diego and The Center to assist low-income and uninsured lesbian, bisexual and transgender women in accessing necessary health care resources. Lessons start at 6 p.m. and the game begins at 7 p.m. There will be more than $1,500 in prizes paid to the top five and pizza sponsored by Transamerica. Border Crossings – A Jewish Zeekend: As part of a weekend event for the Jewish community on the theme “Crossing Borders,” a Jewish religious service will be offered at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center Saturday morning geared to people in the GLBTQ community. It will be based on the new prayerbook being published by the GLBTQ synagogue in San Francisco, Congregation Sha’ar Zahav. There will also be activities geared toward the GLBT Jewish community throughout the weekend. The GLBTQ-focused Shabbat Service will take place on Saturday at 9:30 am at the LFJCC in La Jolla. The Boom Boom Rises From the Dead: The entire community is invited to join longtime supporters in the fight to Save the Boom Boom Room as they come together at the Laguna Democratic Headquarters (Boom Boom Room) to save marriage equality and defeat Proposition 8 from 6:30-11 p.m. The night will include Halloween drinks, dancing and legendary decadence to preserve our freedom to marry. Salsa Sunday: As part of the weekly Salsa Sunday, Belly Up Tavern will feature San Diego’s Orquesta Primo, a salsa combo started by three cousins. The group will perform its version of traditional salsa music, layering tightly woven percussion with standup bass and piano. Dreamgirls Halloween Show: The Dreamgirls Halloween Show will officially kick off the wildest Halloween weekend Urban Mo’s Bar and Grill has seen in years. Chad Michaels and the entire Dreamgirls Review will step it up a notch for what is promised to be their scariest and most hilarious show of the year. The L3 (Ladies, Laughter and Literature) Book Club: L3 will host a reading by author Victor Villaseñor at The Center at 7 p.m. Villaseñor is a Mexican-American writer living in Oceanside, Calif. His first novel, Rain of Gold, chronicles the journey of his family from Mexico to the United States and is a must read for everyone in Southern California. Crazy, Loco Love is a compelling memoir of his adolescent search for meaning and identity as he grappled with his sexuality and spirituality. Drop-In Writers Group: A drop-in writers group is held at Lestat’s Coffeehouse every Thursday from 5-6 p.m. The group is hosted by San Diego Writers, Ink., whose mission is to nurture writers and those wishing to explore the craft of writing, foster a literary community, promote literature and celebrate artistic diversity.
