Reading Group Book Club: The group meets the first Friday of each month from 2-4 p.m. in the Community Resource Room of The San Diego LGBT Community Center. For the month of November, the group is reading My Antonia by Willa Cather. For more information, visit www.gaylesbiantimes.com/links/1089.
Saturday, Nov. 8
Celebrate Sexuality Workshop: Facilitated by licensed therapist Michael Kimmel, this workshop will explore the relationship between mental, physical and sexual health. A happy and healthy sex life is a major part of mental and physical health and a well-balanced sexual life includes the head and heart. Those who are willing to see their sex expression as a positive and essential part of who they are have the capacity to be mentally and physically healthier than ever before. Instead of focusing on what’s wrong with our sexual lives, the Celebrate Sexuality workshop will explore the ways that sexual expression can encourage emotional, spiritual and physical healing. The Celebrate Sexuality workshop will be held at The San Diego LGBT Community Center. For more information, visit www.gaylesbiantimes.com/links/1089.

‘The 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee’: The California Center for the Arts, Escondido will present Tony Award winning new musical comedy The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, at 2 p.m. Six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser. Spelling Bee has been hailed by the Wall Street Journal as “perfect in every possible way – that rarity of rarities, a super-smart musical that is also a bona fide crowd pleaser.” This tuneful, offbeat and at times heartwarming show offers audience members the opportunity (strictly voluntary) to become part of the action as on-stage spellers. The New York Times calls Spelling Bee, “irresistible, riotously funny and remarkably ingenious – gold stars all around.” For more information, visit www.gaylesbiantimes.com/links/1089.
‘Backwater Blues’: In this onstage production of Backwater Blues, Arnie’s dream is to get out of Toad Lake. He wants to sing and dance and act! When a troupe of New York performers is stranded in town, he hopes to befriend them and gain his escape. But the best-laid plans come tumbling down and reality gets in the way, and it takes a load of tuneful, toe-tapping melodies and a few good ballads to get all these problems solved. But, never fear: Love wins out! After all – it’s a musical! Show starts at 7 p.m. at the Compass Theatre. For more information, visit www.gaylesbiantimes.com/links/1089.
