‘One World Many Voices’: Vox Femina Los Angeles presents One World Many Voices, a concert focusing on world peace and harmony featuring southern California’s premier women’s choral ensemble, tonight and tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. at the Zipper Concert Hall in downtown L.A. The concert features traditional folk music from South America, Asia, Eastern Europe, South Africa and the Middle East. First Fridays on Fern: South Park stores and joints are open late tonight, as part of First Fridays on Fern (and Juniper too), with refreshments and special sales. The event takes place on the first Friday of every month. Go to Fern and Juniper streets in South Park to explore.
Urban Bush Women: UCSD’s University Events Office presents the award-winning contemporary dance troupe Urban Bush Women at 7:30 p.m. at the Mandeville Auditorium. Founded in 1984 by choreographer Jawole Will Jo Zollar, they are renowned for rule-breaking choreography, fusing dance, music and storytelling around African-American culture and heritage. Dance jam weekend: The Culture Shock Dance Center is having an eight-hour dance class marathon today, starting at 11:30 a.m. The center offers a multitude of dance classes, including hip-hop, cardio hip-hop, jazz, ballet, salsa and modern. Anne Rice hits town: Best-selling author Anne Rice will be signing copies of her newest installment in the Vampire chronicles, Blood Canticle, at Warwick’s tonight at 7:00 p.m. Her 25th novel, Blood Canticle, follows the vampire Lestat as he falls in love with a mortal woman and becomes ensnared in mortal life in such a way that he realizes he has outlived himself. Ray at Night: The second Saturday of every month is Ray at Night on Ray St. in North Park, from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight. Multiple galleries stay open late, featuring live music and snacks and booze in abundance. The free event is located on Ray St., between University Ave. and North Park Way.

San Diego Jewish Book Fair: J-Pride and the San Diego Jewish Book Fair are hosting gay Jewish author Lev Raphael to speak about his latest book, The German Money. The free lecture takes place at the Jewish Community Center in La Jolla at 5:00 p.m. There will be a reception and book signing immediately afterwards. ‘Asking And Telling’: Diversionary Theatre presents Marc Wolf’s Another American: Asking and Telling tonight at 8:00 p.m. In 1996, Wolf interviewed straight and GLBT military personnel across the country. He also spoke with veterans, civil rights lawyers, politicians and activists — even the sociology professor who created the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy — and assembled their proud, angry and fearful voices into a one-man show.
