Primary Prevention with Positives (P3) seeks local input
Primary Prevention with Positives, or P3, is a new program at The Center, funded by the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, and focuses on the active role HIV-positive people can take in preventing the spread of the virus to others and in keeping themselves free of STDs and other risk factors. At the same time it gives the positive community a stronger voice and a new recognition in the battle. Initial ideas for the group’s activities include creating a simplified “roadmap” of services for those newly diagnosed; the formation of a task force to develop a new prevention campaign geared toward the HIV positive community, and a steering committee to keep the organization on a steady course of growth and response to the changing needs of the community. Other ideas being tossed around include everything from immune system education to cooking classes, as well as innovative safer sex and relationship workshops, dances, and Internet education/intervention. P3 is actively seeking more ideas from positive men who would like to help shape future activities. The group meets from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. every Thursday at The Center (3909 Center St.). For more information, call (619) 692-2077, ext. 133.

Expert to speak on cybersex addiction
A noted author and specialist in the treatment of sexual addiction will speak in Hillcrest on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7:00 p.m. on the topic of “cybersex.”
Sexual addiction is a disorder in which there is loss of control over one’s sexual behavior, resulting in physical, emotional, and financial harm to oneself and others. Sex addicts repeatedly engage in harmful or dangerous behavior despite adverse consequences such as exposure to HIV or other disease, loss of job, loss of relationship, or arrest.
Patrick Carnes, Ph.D., is a leading advocate of the Twelve Steps for recovery from compulsive sexual behavior. His lecture is the keynote event of a conference scheduled by a local Twelve Step group.
