‘Don Quixote’: Can an eccentric, elderly knight capture the heart of the woman he adores? Jules Massenet’s rarely performed French masterpiece Don Quixote will take stage at The Civic Theatre at 2 p.m. This poignant opera, based on the novel by Miguel Cervantes, brings to life one of the noblest gentlemen in all literature – Don Quixote. Romantic and idealistic, Quixote sees Dulcinea not as the village tart, but as the ideal of womanhood. With loyal Sancho Panza at his side, the soulful “knight errant” sets off on a quest – fighting windmills he believes are giants, escaping bandits and risking death – to win the love of his idolized Dulcinea. Hillcrest Mardi Gras: The eighth annual Hillcrest Mardi Gras Street Party celebration will take place on Fat Tuesday, from 6 to 11 p.m. Hillcrest Mardi Gras remains a 21-and-up event. Hillcrest Mardi Gras is a fun-filled evening featuring games, vendors, food, live entertainment and costumes. More than 2,000 guests enjoyed the event in 2008. Advance ticket price is $15 for general admission or $50 for a V.I.P. Pass. Tickets the day of the event are $20 for general admission and $75 for V.I.P. passes.
