“It’s great that ion theater can pick up and move to make a statement, but unfortunate because the ones they want to get the message to will never hear it.”
While I totally agree with boycotting companies that supported proposition 8 this is an unfortunate situation where the ion theater company leaving The Academy for Performing Arts (APA), because of their landlord, Caster Cos, will have no effect on Caster whatsoever. This only hurts APA. They are the ones leasing from Caster. Ion theater was a sub-lease of APA. I know it would be great to say that APA should pick up and move but a dance studio has a huge investment in floors, mirrors, sound systems, etc. Those things are built in and can’t just be pulled out and transported to another location. It sucks if one has to do business with someone they disagree with, but sometimes you just have to deal with it. It’s great that ion theater can pick up and move to make a statement, but unfortunate because the ones they want to get the message to will never hear it. The only one loosing income on this is APA.
“Are they going to see the Rainbow Sticker on my car on the Pride Flag on my house and decide that I should be the last person to be helped if at all?”
If they were in such dire distress, Imagine what will it be like if I need to be rescued? Are they going to see the Rainbow Sticker on my car on the Pride Flag on my house and decide that I should be the last person to be helped if at all? This brings up too many questions on the safety of the Citizens of San Diego. Can the City Employees, that we pay taxes to pay their wages, can now pick and choose?
“Dr. Glen Lipsom, a clinical psychologist who interviewed the firefighters, testified “[the] men are tightly wound” but not homophobic. The firefighters, who were once all stationed in Hillcrest, testified they were not anti-gay.”
If they are not homophobic, then how would they like to explain this statement? “When Allison signed a claim against the city, he wrote: “I believe that a person who does not support homosexuality should not be forced to participate in the parade.”
I believe that the public must always come first. If we can’t trust our Firefighters and police officers, then who can we trust?
“Women are subject to unwanted attention each time they go out in public.”
“We knew if we put compensation on [the claim], people would start listening to us,” Allison said. “I believe if I was a woman, it would have been handled differently.”
Yes, it would have been handled differently, Mr. Allison, it would have been ignored. Women are subject to unwanted attention each time they go out in public. It is often considered complimentary by the men who whistle and make suggestive comments.
