San Diego Symphony: Join the San Diego Symphony for a night of classical music. The concert opens with Felix Mendelssohn’s “Hebrides Overture” and then Music Director Jahja Ling leads a performance of Antonin Dvorak’s “Serenade in E Major for Strings.” Master pianist Yefim Bronfman will also be performing Johannes Brahms’ “Second Piano Concerto.” The music begins at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $20. Bowling for Equality: The Human Rights Campaign is holding its first Bowling for Equality event at Kearny Mesa Bowl from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Singles as well as couples are welcome. Create a team to compete for best score, worst score, most gutter-balls and more. Bowling skills are not required, but prizes will be awarded. Tickets are $30 pre-sale and $40 at the door. M-Azing Race: On your mark. Get set. Ready? Go! M-Power San Diego, a social group for gay and bisexual guys between the ages of 25 and 45 who come together to share their thoughts about the latest trends affecting the gay community in a fun setting, will be hosting its own version of TV’s “Amazing Race” at Balboa Park. The race starts promptly at 2 p.m. and ends with a dinner. Dating with God, Dating with Buddha: In this workshop, local therapist Michael Kimmel will explore how to bring spirituality and humor into your dating life at the Universal Spirit Center in Hillcrest from 1 to 3 p.m. Through a series of questions and interactive experiences, participants will be able to look at their old ideas about dating, what works and doesn’t and how to align their dating with God, Buddha or whatever spiritual idea(s) are meaningful to them. Humor plays an important part in the workshop. The subject is important, but Kimmel promises it won’t be a boring lecture. In the Mood: Swing ‘n sway to In the Mood: A Swinging 1940s Musical Revue, featuring the best of the big band era. The performance will feature the music of the 1940s with the sensational String of Pearls Big Band Orchestra. Arrangements, costumes and choreography will be as authentic as they come. Neighborhood Cleanup: After a hiatus, dozens of diligent sweepers with the combined efforts of the Hillcrest Town Council will gather for winter cleanup efforts beginning at 9 a.m. Got junk to pitch? A dumpster will be located across the street in Numbers parking lot on Park Boulevard. Brooms, gloves, tools and free T-shirts will be provided to all volunteers. Naked Yoga: This one day, two-part yoga series, workshop, led by yoga instructor Aaron Star, seeks to improve and refine yoga practice, focus the mind and rediscover simple pleasures in a warm and supportive environment for like-minded men. The first workshop starts at 11 a.m., the second at 5 p.m. The workshops are two hours each. Everyone is invited to stay after the sessions for some refreshments and socializing. ‘The Sugar Syndrome’: The Sugar Syndrome is a new play, written by Lucy Prebble, about 17-year-old Dani, who is so over everything that she finds herself surfing Internet chat rooms, searching for someone who is honest and direct. What she finds is Tim, a man twice her age who thinks she is an 11-year-old boy. Because of its adult subject matter, the play is intended for mature audiences. The Sugar Syndrome will be showing at The Diversionary Theatre through Sunday, March 8.
