The San Diego LGBT Community Center is teaming up with the cast of Rent, Broadway San Diego and Confidential Restaurant and Loft for “Help Pay RENT” a benefit for The Center’s 23-unit Youth Housing Project.

Community members will join together on the opening night of Rent featuring the stars of the original Broadway cast and the feature film, Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp, at San Diego Civic Theatre, Tuesday, March 10 at 7 p.m.; followed by an exclusive Rent Cast Party at Confidential Restaurant and Loft , located at 901 4th Ave., in Downtown San Diego.

Rapp and The Center’s HIV/AIDS Events Manager Donnie Luehring worked together in Houston on the 2006 AIDS Walk – where Luehring served on staff and Rapp was the walk’s Grand Marshal, “I know Anthony to be absolutely awesome when it comes to lending his name and talent to eradicating HIV and AIDS, while also being incredibly compassionate about issues facing today’s LGBTQ youth,” Luehring says. “It’s fantastic to team up with Anthony Rapp and the cast of RENT to do something fabulous for the 23 formerly homeless youth living at The Center’s Youth Housing Project by raising $15,500 to cover literally one month’s rent.”

The Center’s Youth Housing Project provides safe and supportive housing for San Diego’s homeless youth, including GLBT and HIV-positive youth. The 23-unit facility is located in Downtown, close to City College, public transportation, community health facilities and other essential resources to ensure that youth have easy access to needed services that will support them in maintaining stable housing.

Help The Center reach its goal of raising $15,500 or the equivalent of one month’s rent for all 23 youth residents at The Center’s nationally recognized Youth Housing Project on Tuesday, March 10.
