Politics 101: The Latest
Politics 101
The next City Council race could be very interesting. In District 2, I hear popular community activist Laurie Coskey has been approached about a possible run and is in the listening stage. With City Council President Ben Hueso going on to the State Assembly, word is that former City Attorney Mike Aguirre is the choice of many in District 8. Aguirre easily carried this council district in his last election. With Donna Frye running for County Supervisor Ron Robert’s seat, it looks like former Assemblymember Howard Wayne has his eyes on Fry’s seat, but some would like to see Denise Price, who was Toni Atkins’ former chief of staff, to replace Frye.
Recently, a prominent Democratic Party fundraiser told me that he broke bread with Assemblymember Lori Salañda and she told him she is seriously looking at running for County Supervisor. A religious leader told me at lunch that San Diego Unified School District Board President Shelia Jackson told him that Jackson is also seriously looking at Robert’s seat. Trust me, I’ve been around politics in this town for more than 40 years and these sources of mine are in the know. And, now, you are in the know of the possible candidates in the next round of political musical chairs.
