Sandi Burnside loves cabinetry. She started working for a cabinet shop in 1987 while attending college. After earning a degree in Business Administration and Management in 1990, Burnside opened her own cabinet business, Wallbeds by Sandmar, initially starting it as a wholesaler.

Today, Sandmar is a factory-direct cabinet retail shop specializing in wallbeds, kitchen and bath cabinets and desk systems. Sandmar’s customers and contractors look to Sandmar to provide everything from design and production to installation services, making Sandmar a full-service company. Every piece it sells is hand crafted in the El Cajon facility. By selling directly to the public, Sandmar provides fine-quality cabinetry at factory-direct prices.

Sandmar also realizes that people are living in some tough economic times.

“With kids moving back in, space can be at a premium. That’s where we can help. With a Wallbed by Sandmar you can keep your home office by day and have a spare bedroom by night. We can even create a custom desk and cabinet system to match your wallbed,” Sandi said.

In 2001, Jenn, Sandi’s wife, joined Sandmar. In 2008, they celebrated the opening of their first factory-direct showroom. On the weekends, Sandi and Jenn enjoy cooking with friends, having a glass of wine and hanging out with their rescued greyhounds Cell and Fatassya. The entire staff at Sandmar is committed to supporting the GLBT community, volunteering during the “No on 8” campaign as well as patronizing GLBT businesses whenever possible.
