Published Thursday, 23-Apr-2009 in issue 1113
This spring, the San Diego women’s community is in full bloom, with tons of great events and new club nights around town. San Diego Pride is just around the corner, and I am already hearing rumblings about the new and innovative events that 607 Events, FlawLes and others have planned. With so many choices, what’s a girl to do? Read on for my suggestions.
Women’s Fest is May 16 at The Center
The Women’s Resource Center will host a day-long festival of workshops, live entertainment and resources for lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LBT) women at the San Diego LGBT Community Center. Women’s Fest 2009: Green Women, Green World will take place on Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at The Center. This year’s festival will focus on empowering women to be more eco-friendly in their choices and behaviors, as well as encourage the growth of a safer, healthier women’s community. Have you seen the line-up of workshops taking place at Women’s Fest? The schedule includes everything from Acupuncture for Women to What Every Woman Wants to Know about the Economy. The Rubber Rose will be hosting a workshop on keeping it green in the bedroom, called The Big Green O, and Eveoke Dance Theatre will host Community Through Hip-Hop Dance. Free breast exams will be available from 2 to 4:30 p.m. The San Diego Women’s Drum Circle, Bitter Sober and Miki Vale will perform starting at 4:30 p.m. Women’s Fest will finish with an after party at Bamboo Lounge, hosted by the San Diego Lesbian Meetup Group. If you pre-register for a workshop, you will receive a free lunch. To view the schedule for Women’s Fest, go to http://thecentersd.org/womensfest.php.
