Dance 4 Equality: The North County Coalition is hosting Dance 4 Equality at the Oceanside Community Rooms in Oceanside at 6 p.m. The event is an opportunity for North County’s GLBT community to socialize, dance and have fun. Everyone is invited, including GLBT allies, faith-based organizations, non-profit organizations and vendors that support equality, friends, families and pets. DJ Rob Klaproth will DJ. Envision The Future: The Live and Let Live Alano Club will host its second annual Envision The Future at The Center at 6:30 p.m. The event is a benefit dinner, concert and silent auction. Urban Mo’s is hosting a fund-raiser for Lambda Archives San Diego on Saturday, May 2 at 7 p.m. Beer tickets and Jell-O shots will be available for purchase. All proceeds from the tickets and shots will go directly to the nonprofit. The mission of the Lambda Archives of San Diego (LASD) is to collect, preserve and teach the history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in the San Diego and Northern Baja California region. The DNA of Music – Passion: Beethoven’s moving Elegy for chorus and string orchestra begins a program that features stunning guest artist Maya Beiser performing Elgar’s heartbreaking Cello Concerto at the UCSD Mandeville Auditorium from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. In The General, author/librettist Paul Griffiths draws a composite score from Beethoven (Egmont, King Stephen, Leonore Prohaska and Opferlied) and adds text to create a dramatic work for orchestra, chorus and actor that tells the story of the Rwandan tragedy through the eyes of the general leading the U.N. peacekeeping mission. A conversation with Barbara Lundblad: Moving Beyond Fear: Faithfulness in Changing Times – A Conversation with Barbara Lundblad will be held at First Lutheran Church at 8:30 a.m. Pastor Lundblad, professor of preaching at Union Theological Seminary in New York City, has been a tireless advocate for the full inclusion of gay and lesbian people in church life. First Lutheran Church is celebrating its 20th year as a Reconciling in Christ congregation, a Lutheran designation for congregations that welcome the GLBT community. Easter lilies: Balboa Park’s Easter lilies are on display at the Botanical Building in Balboa Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Historically, Minoan frescoes depict the flower dating back more than 3,500 years, and ancient Romans planted the lily along roadsides for medicinal use for traveling solders needing treatment for wounds and sores. In the first century, the Christian Church adopted the lily as the flower of Easter. Public viewing of the lilies at the Botanical Building is free and open every day, at the time mentioned above, except Thursdays and holidays. Mercantile Circus: SanDiegoRustic.com presents Mercantile Circus in Mission Valley at 5 p.m. The event will feature San Diego-based, GLBT- owned, -operated and -friendly businesses introducing themselves in a fun and informative atmosphere. DJ Marcel Hetu will spin dance music all evening. Circus attire is optional. Participating businesses include Man-Gear, House Boi, Kesselman Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine and Fortaleza Tequilla. Food and festivities include barbeque, tequilla tasting and a fire and poi show. ‘Psychopathia Sexualis’: The Compass Theatre will stage Psychopathia Sexualis at 8 p.m. The John Patrick Shanley comedy is about an obscure artist with a fetish for his father’s argyle socks and an upcoming marriage. The socks, which go missing, play a crucial role. Tickets are $20 and $23. Tickets can be purchased online or over the phone.
