Letters to the Editor

“I look forward to the resolution of the labor dispute and I applaud HERE (the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees union) and Chuck Ross for working to that end.”
Dear Editor:
As the state senator representing Old Town State Park I believe it’s important for your readers to know that there are dozens of businesses and historic sites that are separate from the labor dispute involving one single business operator.
Old Town State Park draws thousands of visitors because it is fun and fascinating to learn about old time San Diego. All of us have taken visiting family and friends to Old Town for great food and sightseeing. Moreover, in this slow economy these business owners are working hard to keep their shops and restaurants thriving.
I look forward to the resolution of the labor dispute and I applaud HERE (the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees union) and Chuck Ross for working to that end. The best outcome for all of us is for the workers to return to work and for visitors to enjoy all of Old Town State Park this summer.

The whole experience was exciting and all Staff and Volunteers along with a great deal of guest appearances by directors, writers, and even the films stars made our 4 day Cine-campout an experience we will never forget.
Dear Editor:
We just came back down to Earth after reveling in 4 days of movies at this years FilmOUT LGBT Film Festival. So I thought I’d put my little trailer on the whole event.
I was very impressed with the wide variety of films being shown. There, literally, was something for everyone. From the coming out/coming of age movies like Make the Yule Tide Gay to the horrific Eugene - a movie definitely not for the weak of heart or stomach.
One of my top favorites was the British film Affinity. A Victorian period piece filled with prison passion and mysticism. If I had to chose just one film after seeing 33 (10 features/23 shorts) it would have to be the Irish short film James. A 17 minute masterpiece about a boy who, in desperation, seeks recognition from a stranger when those who should be there to love and understand him are too self absorbed to even care.
And we were lucky to see Chef’s Special for a second time. It had previously played at the San Diego Latino Film Festival. What a FUNNY movie!!!!
The whole experience was exciting and all Staff and Volunteers along with a great deal of guest appearances by directors, writers, and even the films stars made our 4 day Cine-campout an experience we will never forget.
Thanks GLT for, personally, making this happen for us. We appreciate it more than you will ever know.
xoxo
