LGBT Community Coalition Breakfast: The Center is hosting its monthly Community Coalition Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. This month’s breakfast will feature Vince Hall, vice-president of Public Affairs and Communications for Planned Parenthood of San Diego and Riverside counties. Hall will discuss the rapidly changing political landscape for the pro-choice and pro-equality movements, and the common legal foundation of LGBT and reproductive rights. Happy Birthday Freida Kahlo: The San Diego LGBT Community Center will celebrate Freida Kahlo’s birthday at 6 p.m., Saturday, June 20. Frida Kahlo was one of the most influential Mexican painters of the middle 20th century. The event includes a live salsa band, traditional Mexican dance performance, multiple art exhibits by local Latino and Latina artists and vendors, a Frida look-a-like contest, and great food and Tequila. All proceeds from this event will benefit The Center’s Latino and Latina services program. The Center is located at 3909 Centre St. in Hillcrest. Guys Like Us Pool Party: Guys Like Us (GLU) is hosting a pool party at noon. The pool party includes food, drinks, entertainment, go-go boys, hourly drawings and a fashion show. GLU is a San Diego-based social organization dedicated to fostering harmony within the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender community with a global emphasis on tolerance. Members share a common interest in the Asian culture and are dedicated to fostering ethnic unity and diversity. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Food and open bar are included. This is a 21-and-above event. Net proceeds will benefit AIDS Walk 2009 and GLU’s Mark JR Cumberland Scholarship. The pool party will take place at 6910 Cibola Rd. in San Carlos. Anomas: The Arts and Entertainment Center is hosting Anomas at 8 p.m. Anomas is a night of live jazz sponsored by Project Umoja City of Villages, a local nonprofit organization that gives workshops and seminars on a variety of gay and gay friendly topics including self awareness, marriage, HIV and AIDS. The event features many of today’s up and coming local jazz players. Doors open at 8 p.m. and show starts at 8:30 p.m. The event is free but asks for donations. Suggested donation is $10. Pride Pool Party: San Diego Pride is hosting Pride Pool Party at the Sheraton Mission Valley at 2 p.m. The party includes music by DJ Michael Carrera, appetizers by Sheraton and a cash bar. Admission is $20. Proceeds go to San Diego Pride to fund its annual San Diego LGBT Pride festival. The Sheraton Mission Valley is located at 1433 Camino Del Rio South in Mission Valley. Community Gardening Event: Friends of the Point Loma Native Plant Garden will meet to clean the Point Loma Native Plant Garden in Ocean Beach at 9 a.m. The garden houses a collection of rare and endangered native plants that need help to remain healthy and vibrant. Activities consist of light gardening, pruning, mulching, trail maintenance and more. All tools and supplies are provided. Community service hours can be verified for those that need them. Dress in clothes that can get a little dirty and wear closed shoes, no sandals or flip-flops allowed for safety reasons. Kundalini Yoga: The Center’s Women’s Resource Center is hosting Kundalini Yoga at 5:45 p.m. Kundalini Yoga is an ancient science that combines postures, movements, breath, stretching, relaxation, meditation, rhythm and sound currents to work on every aspect of the human body. No previous experience in yoga is required. Attendees should dress comfortably and those with sensitive joints should bring a yoga mat or pillow. Activist Town Hall forum: San Diego Alliance for Marriage Equality is hosting Activist Town Hall forum at The Center at 6:30 p.m. The event begins with a half-hour social with refreshments, followed by speakers including Robin Tyler and Diane Olson, who will discuss the history of GLBT activism, coalition building within activist communities, 2010 vs. 2012 legislation, uniting local and national activism. Workshop at 7 p.m. The workshop, hosted by Wenndi Freer, will address why clutter is so hard to get rid of and give practical tips to make the process easier. Freer will also cover how our emotions and beliefs make us more or less effective at clearing clutter. Clear your clutter and watch your life change! J Pride Happy Hour: Lei Lounge hosts J Pride Happy Hour at 5:30 p.m. J Pride reaches out to the diverse community of GLBT Jews in San Diego.
