“August Provost plain and simple is a victim of a hate crime.”
Dear Beloved Ones,
Seaman August Provost was murdered in a most horrific way and the military is covering up this violent hate crime. August Provost plain and simple is a victim of a hate crime having been gagged, beaten, shot 3 times and set on fire.
‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ creates a hostile work place where Lesbian and Gay service people can not go to their supervisors and report harrassment or worse. The reality if they do report any hate speech/crimes opens up an investigation into weather they are LGBT and further harrassment and being fired from their job in the military. DADT blames the victim rather then addresses the hate crimes of homophobia, racism and sexism that is rampant in the military.
Seaman August Provost was afraid of reporting that he was being harrassed for being a gay black man in a hostile work place. He is a hero who gave his life in service to the military the night he was brutily murdered in that guard shack. Seaman Provost lost his life because of ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ and we must continue the fight to repeal DADT in his memory!
Please join the Southern California LGBT QIQAA community as we pay respects to one of our own, victim of a Hate Crime Murder. Friday, July 10th at 5:30PM meet at THe LGBT Center in Hillcrest for a carpool ‘Memorial Procession’ to Oceanside where we will pay our respects in a candle light vigil.
Silence = Death
Action = Life
DADT = Hate Crime
“Mr. dj...in case you haven’t noticed, these are difficult times financially.”
Um...mr. dj...in case you haven’t noticed, these are difficult times financially in our country these days. How much is it to go to a club with cover or a circuit party or even to get into the Pride Festival these days? You might be able to afford gettin’ out and about, but some of us have had to cut back. So if you want us to get off the internet, and back socializing, try giving us our jobs back.
“Why [does] our LGBT past always start with Stonewall. Native American LGBT’s are the original history of the LGBT community.”
Howka, I am writing in regards to your article titled “ honoring the past, celebrating the future”. As the leader of Southern Californias only Native American LGBT group, I continually wonder why our LGBT past always starts with Stonewall. Native American LGBT’s are the original history of the LGBT community. We were not only the first homosexuals in this country once called Turtle island but we were also the first LGBT allowed to marry in this country, unlike now. We had rights that are no longer afforded LGBT’s.There are numerous oral histories amongst our tribes and books. I just pray and hope someday our own community will celebrate and honor our historical place in the LGBT community.

“I think the time has come for the Center to seek a new executive director.”
There is no excusing this tragedy. Delores Jacobs invoking homophobia is a ruse and yet another example of the many failures this person has shown us over her years in running the Center. Not allowing drug tests of applicants? Even public school kids are being tested these days when facilities being used by them have a history of drug abuse. Her incompetence in running this facility goes back to when it first opened when a stabbing crime was reported. Not checking the backgrounds of applicants for drug abuse is unforgivable. Then there’s the practice of allowing residents 24 and older to stay there at a place designed for kids. Is this a youth shelter or a hotel?
I think the time has come for the Center to seek a new executive director. The slipshod handling of Sunburst must be ended.
