OK ladies, Pride is officially here, and it’s time to celebrate! Luckily, there are tons of options for the ladies this year, covering everything from fine dining to dive bar debauchery! If you’re unsure of where to go on which day, read on for Queer Abby’s Annual Guide to the best of San Diego Pride weekend:
Thursday
Spend your “lay over” at Universal
Kick Off your Pride festivities with the women of FlawLes and 607 Productions at one of San Diego’s most beautiful venues in Hillcrest – Universal (1202 University Ave., Hillcrest). Enjoy live music, DJs and San Diego’s lesbian community in a first annual, unique celebration. The party gets going at 6 p.m., and this is definitely your best bet for Thursday’s Happy Hour. Free. 21+. For more information, visit www.flawles.com or www.607events.com.
London or Amsterdam?
Later on Thursday night, you can stick around at Universal and watch it transition into Amsterdam’s Red Light District! “Red Light District” is a party for our “lesbros” and friends – meaning, the boys are coming out to play too! Tickets are $15. If the red lights are not your thing, check out the Annual Blackout Party at Rich’s (1051 University Ave., Hillcrest). This year, FlawLes and 607 are throwing a “London Underground” party with a European twist. Tickets are $15. 21+. For more information on either party, visit www.flawles.com or www.607events.com.
Friday
Annual Pride Breakfast
Friday morning you’ve got to eat breakfast, right? Why not enjoy a champagne brunch with your community? The July San Diego LGBT Community Coalition Breakfast will take place on Friday, July 17, from 7:30-9 a.m. at The Center (3909 Centre St.) A full breakfast is available for a $10 donation, and RSVPs are not required. This is a great way to kick off Pride with friends!
Dine with San Diego’s Finest Women
Looking for a Pride event that takes place outside of a club? Love to eat and chat it up with intriguing, successful women? At the “East Village Charitable Dinner” you can enjoy an all-inclusive dinner at the Hard Rock Hotel with celebrities, politicians and local, influential women in business. Hosted by Monique from the Jack FM morning show, the evening will feature some incredible opportunities to network with some of San Diego’s finest. Tickets are $125 but worth every penny! For more information or to buy tickets, visit www.flawles.com or www.607events.com.
Rock Hard at the Hard Rock
OK, it’s Friday night and you are looking to get out and dance. The Hard Rock Hotel is the place to be Friday night, for “Central Park,” kicking off at 9 p.m. The evening’s lineup includes Fannius III, a celebrity fashion show, DJ Dirty Kurty and more! Tickets are $35. 21+. For more information or to buy tickets, visit www.flawles.com or www.607events.com.
Get Bamboo-zled
If you’re looking for a neighborhood party with no cover, then Bamboo Lounge’s Women’s Pre Pride Party is your best bet for Friday night. Enjoy a community vibe, sushi, drinks and friends. The party kicks off at 7 p.m. Bamboo Lounge is located at 1475 University Ave., Hillcrest).

The L-Stage
The Lavender Stage at San Diego Pride is the place to be on Saturday at the festival. Make sure to check out lesbian hip-hop artist, JFP, at 3:30 p.m., as well as San Diego’s own Veronica May (6 p.m.) and Box Star (5:15 p.m.). The Lavender Stage creates a chill area for women to gather and connect at the festival, so make sure to check it out.
Blast Off with the “Mile High Club”
On Saturday night, witness the transformation of The Abbey, as it’s taken up a mile high. Enjoy sexy and sensual flight attendants, dance performances, visual effects and an in-flight cocktail service until 2 a.m. DJ Kathy Valenti is on board to help make the flight enjoyable! Takeoff is 8 p.m. For those over 21 years old. Tickets are $35. For more information or to buy tickets, visit www.flawles.com or www.607events.com.
U*NI*TY brings the community together
Looking for a party where the whole GLBT community comes together to celebrate? The U*NI*TY Pride Party will take place Saturday, July 18, at 9 p.m. at The Flame. The word on the street is that the pre-sale tickets are gone, but $30 at the door will get you an amazing lineup: Bitter Sober, three amazing DJs, a live dance performance from the Sarah Bush Project, free Absolute drinks (10:30 p.m. to midnight) and more! U*NI*TY is a party for the entire GLBT community, 21 years and older. For more information or to get tickets, visit www.in2uevents.com.
Grab your “Peeps”
If you prefer a dive bar vibe over a big club, SHE Productions is hosting “Peep Show” at Kadan (496 30th St., North Park) on Saturday night, 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. This party has no cover and no dress code and drink specials all night. DJ Kiss and DJ Tova will be on the turntables, so get ready for a fun, laid-back night.
Soul Kiss gets sexy
Saturday night’s sexiest party will most likely be Soul Kiss, which will take place at The Office (3936 30th St., North Park). The dress code is “bring your sexy” and DJ J-Heart and DJ Dopeshoes will be spinning the hottest hip hop, soul, and more. The 21-and-up party kicks off at 9:30 p.m. Early arrival is suggested. Tickets are $15 at the door. For more information, visit http://soulkisspride09.eventbrite.com

Bitter Sober
Sunday night, keep the Pride train rolling at Ruby Room (1271 University Ave., Hillcrest) for an amazing live music lineup – Lauren DeRose, Kera & the Lesbians, MC Flow and JFP. You know you are already calling in sick on Monday, so why not just go for it? The party, for those 21 and older, starts at 9 p.m.
That’s it for Queer Abby’s Annual Guide. Have a safe and happy Pride Weekend and remember – the girl on line next to you at the festival porto-potty may very well be your next ex-girlfriend... so smile!
Happy Pride!
