Bedford Built’s furniture encompasses craftsmanship, design and efficiency. Owner Joe Bedford hand selects all materials for every job, from commission work to custom-design projects. While Bedford specializes in woodworking, his relationships with exceptional fabricators of metal and upholstery allow him to add a variety of elements to his furniture.

Originally from a small town in Iowa, Bedford studied both construction engineering and marketing before leaving his hometown. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in interior design from the Art Institute of California, he decided to open his own business.

Bedford Built does designer and industry-related commission work and custom-designed projects. Bedford starts by identifying a client’s needs and follows up with a visit to the site before hand-selecting all the materials. Bedford Built then supplies samples and finishes to the client for approval. After installation, Bedford follows up with clients to make sure they are satisfied and the work is successful. Every job Bedford receives, he completes efficiently and correctly every single time.

Adjacent to Bedford Built’s workshop in Little Italy is Bedford’s one-of-a-kind gallery, Coalesce, which means to come together as one. The gallery showcases Bedford’s furniture designs as well as art from local San Diego artists. An opening event is hosted at Coalesce every two months to showcase Bedford’s latest furniture series and the work of a new artist.
