Black’s Beach: Enjoy the unofficial end of summer at Black’s Beach, San Diego’s only nude beach. Black’s Beach is a favorite hangout of local gay men and lesbians – clothed, unclothed and all permutations thereof. It is a two-mile stretch of beach at the base of 300-foot cliffs near University of California, San Diego. Directions to Black’s Beach from Downtown are the following: take the 5 freeway, exit Genesee and head west. Turn left on North Torrey Pines Road. Turn right on Torrey Pines Scenic Drive. After you’ve made the turn, you will see a sign for Torrey Pines Gliderport. Follow that road to the end. At the end is a cul de sac and straight ahead is a driveway to a dirt road with a gate. Pass through the gate, bear left and park. There is a path to the south of parking, set apart by railroad ties. Follow that path, bearing left. Straight ahead you will see a few warning signs. To the left of those, a rugged and steep 10- to 15-minute trail to the beach begins. Once you finished the descent, walk north to the unofficial gay area of the beach, where you will find lots of sunbathers. Remember to bring shoes for the descent.
